Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information

    Sherman T. Potter

And finally, how did Potter leave the camp on the last episode?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

On Sophie. He said that he was going to take one more ride on Sophie and then give her to the orphanage. Hawkeye left by chopper, Margaret by jeep and Charles by garbage truck. Well, that's it. Hope you enjoyed it! I hope to create some more quizzes in the near future.

Who is Potter's favorite writer?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Zane Grey. If you recall, he gave Margaret one of Grey's books for her time capsule!

What is Potter's favorite movie?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

"My Darling Clementine". I guess if a guy is such a horse lover his favorite movie would be a western. This bit of information was revealed in the episode "Movie Tonight."

Does he have pictures of his wife?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Yes. Yes he does. He has one in his office and one in his tent.

Did he ever cheat on his wife?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Yes. Yes he did. When his son-in-law came to visit and Potter discovered that he had an affair in Japan, Potter revealed to him that he too was guilty of cheating on his wife a long time ago.

Was Harry Morgan ever on "M*A*S*H" before he became a regular cast member?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Yes. Yes, once before in an episode called "The General Flipped At Dawn". I think he won an Emmy for this guest role.

    Who played Potter?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Harry Morgan. He was in a lot of old westerns where he went by the name "Henry".

What did he say when he slipped in some of Sophie's manure in his office?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

"Son, to me, that's a tiptoe thru the tulips!". I guess someone who is a horse lover wouldn't mind! This occured when Radar gave Sophie to Colonel Potter as an anniversary gift.

Has he ever turned in a friend?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Yes, twice. He turned in one of them for getting some soldiers hurt. The friend didn't know what he was doing and he was doing it just to get some stupid promotion and retire a full colonel! This was in the episode, "Ping Pong". In the episode "Friends and Enemies", he turned in another old army chum whose actions were also getting young men hurt or worse.

What is his horse's name?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Sophie. I find this interesting because when he first inspected Sophie, he called "her" a "him".

How many kids does he have?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Two. He has mentioned that he has one son and one daughter.

What is his wife's name?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Mildred. Peg is BJ's wife. Louise is Frank's wife. And Lorraine was Henry's wife.

What city and state does Potter call home?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Hannibal, Missouri. Remember when he mentioned that President Truman "was from my very own state"?

What is Sherman Potter's rank?"M*A*S*H"- Sherman Potter

Colonel. Remember when he called himself "bird colonel"?

How did Colonel Potter leave the 4077th in the very last episode, namely 'Goodbye, Farewell and Amen'?'M*A*S*H' - Sherman T. Potter

On his horse. Colonel Potter left his horse Sophie in Korea before returning to the states, but not before giving her one last ride out of the 4077th, the fitting end to his grand command and an eight year tour-of-duty on the best TV show of all time!

Colonel Potter loved no other animal better than a horse. What was the name of the Colonel's beloved horse, first appearing in the episode 'Dear Mildred' in season four?'M*A*S*H' - Sherman T. Potter

Sophie. The beautiful Sophie was given to Colonel Potter by Radar, who with the help of Hawkeye and BJ had rescued the poor, abandoned beast. Sophie was originally referred to as a male horse.

Along with his wife, Sherman Potter is very proud of the rest of his family, and mentions a number of family members during the show. What was Colonel Potter's daughter's name?'M*A*S*H' - Sherman T. Potter

Evy. Evy has a child, and is married to a man named Bob Wilson, who we actually get to meet in the eleventh season episode 'Strange Bedfellows'. He is played by Dennis Dugan. This is the only Potter family member who shows up live during the run of 'M*A*S*H'. Colonel Potter also has a son, but we never learn his name. We do, however, learn that his daughter-in-law's name is Jeanine.

Colonel Potter is very proud to call Missouri his home state. He's even more proud to call what small Missouri town his home town?'M*A*S*H' - Sherman T. Potter

Hannibal. Hannibal, Missouri, made famous by Mark Twain, who featured his boyhood hometown in his books 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and 'Huckleberry Finn'. Oddly enough, prior to establishing Missouri as the home of Colonel Potter, he mentions something about living in Nebraska.

Colonel Potter was very much in love with his wife, and mentioned her name often during the run of the show. What was Potter's beloved wife's name?'M*A*S*H' - Sherman T. Potter

Mildred. Mildred never appears live in the TV series 'M*A*S*H', but she was seen several times in the follow-up series 'After MASH', played by different actresses both times, namely Anne Pitoniak and Barbara Townsend. Her picture was often seen on Colonel Potter's desk as well.

What terrific actor brought the character Colonel Sherman T. Potter to life on the small screen?'M*A*S*H' - Sherman T. Potter

Harry Morgan. Harry Morgan, veteran of both the big screen and small screen, took the role of Sherman Potter beginning in 1975. Before that, he had made a career playing significant roles in such films as 'The Ox-Bow Incident', 'Inherit the Wind' and 'How the West Was Won', along with appearing in TV shows such as 'Dragnet'.

One of my favorite 'M*A*S*H' characters, and among the greatest authority figures ever portrayed in a TV series, Sherman T. Potter was both a good leader and a caring fatherly figure. Do we ever learn what the 'T' stands for in his name during any episode?'M*A*S*H' - Sherman T. Potter

No. Indeed, what the 'T' stands for is still a mystery, though there has been a lot of speculation. It would make sense that the 'T' stands for 'Tecumseh', since he was named after the Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman, but this is never revealed.
