Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information

    Guild Wars

One popular attribute for Rangers is Beast Mastery. In which "Guild Wars" title can a Ranger charm a tiger?"Guild Wars" Professions

Factions. The Ranger is a popular ranged-attack character because they often use bows to attack enemies from afar. The Marksmanship attribute and primary attribute, Expertise will allow the Ranger to strengthen their bow and arrow skills. Along with these and the Beast Mastery attributes, a Ranger can also use Wilderness Survival spells which can create traps and start rituals. Rangers can often interrupt enemy attacks and 'Barrage Rangers' are commonly found in the game. These often use Elementalists or Monks as a secondary profession.

The Monk is the healing profession, there's no way around it. What is the name of the Monk's primary attribute?"Guild Wars" Professions

Divine Favor. Monks are characters that every party will be searching for. Quite simply, the Monk is what keeps the party going, and without one, teams will have a hard time resurrecting or healing party members. Secondary attributes for the Monk include Healing Prayers, Protective Prayers, and Smiting Prayers. Divine Favor, the primary attribute, will allow a Monk to heal allies much more effectively. Famous Monks include Brother Mhenlo and Danika of the Kurzicks. Players often hear about the 55 Monk as well. It only has 55HP, but due to the way that the character is built, it survives easily in battle.

Necromancers are a popular character in the game due to the fact that they can raise the dead. Which is not a minion that they can 'animate'?"Guild Wars" Professions

Flash Demon. The Necromancer is often sought after for the fact that they can be a Minion Master (often abbreviated to MM) and because of this, they can use large groups of undead allies to attack an enemy. Necromancers can also use Blood Magic to steal enemy health and help their party (including minions). The Death Magic and (primary) Soul Reaping attributes both assist the Necromancer with these skills.

What is the Mesmer primary attribute?"Guild Wars" Professions

Fast Casting. Mesmers are odd characters, often using magic to change a situation to their liking. Using hexes, spells, enchantments, and other magic, Mesmers can interrupt opponents, remove status effects and more. Next to the Fast Casting technique, Mesmers use Domination, Illusion, and Inspiration Magic to inflict damage or prevent damage from foes.

The Elementalists uses the power of the elements to cast magic spells. Is the Elementalist the only profession with four secondary attributes?"Guild Wars" Professions

No. The Elementalist uses the Energy Storage attribute to increase total energy by three points per skill. Along with this, players can choose one of four secondary professions relating to Fire, Water, Earth, and Air Magic. Each of these involve their own spells and powers that affect different enemies. The Fire Elementalist (also known as Pyromancer) is the most common due to its strength. Fire Elementalists are also called Nukers in the game due to their catastrophic blows with Meteor, Meteor Shower, and Fire Storm skills. The Warrior is the only other profession with four secondary skills.

The Dervish is another character from Elona. Which weapon does this character use and have a secondary attribute for?"Guild Wars" Professions

Scythe. One of the Dervish's secondary attributes is the Scythe Mastery skill, which allows them to use the Scythe much better and attack with more damage. Besides this, the Dervish uses Wind and Earth Prayers to attack much like the Elementalist with spells. The primary attribute for the Dervish is the Mysticism skill, which will heal a Dervish's health and energy depending on the points placed into the skill.

In PvE (Player vs. the Environment), what is the highest Death Penalty that you can achieve? The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

60%. If any character is killed while completing the campaign, they will take a 15% Death Penalty, lowering both their overall health and energy temporarily. To remove the Death Penalty, you either need to defeat enemies, capture skills, or enter a town or outpost. Defeating bosses will also cut the penalty back down. Henchmen and Heroes can both gain Death Penalty as well, and there is a cap at 60%. In later stages of a campaign, the Death Penalty can be a player's ultimate enemy as it will decrease chances of advancing. If all players die in battle, they will be transported to the nearest resurrection shrine. However, if they all die within a mission, they will be transported to the outpost marking the start of the mission.

How can a player gain a Morale Boost? The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

By defeating a boss. Also in PvE, a player can gain a Morale Boost, which is the polar opposite of the dreaded Death Penalty. The Morale Boost will raise health and energy by a certain amount. Defeating a boss will give a player a 2% Morale Boost, and defeating more bosses will stack the boosts. In certain areas and missions, defeating certain other enemies (such as Sand Giants in Thirty River) will give a Morale Boost. If a player is killed in battle, they will still receive a 15% Death Penalty, but the blow won't be as hard, as what may have been a 2% Morale Boost will only translate to a 13% Death Penalty (rather than 15%) after death. Like Dealth Penalties, Morale Boosts are lost when a player enters a town or outpost.

How many skills can a player hold in their Skill Bar?The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

Eight. The skill bar is on the bottom of the screen along with the Health and Energy bars. Skills can be both captured and bought in the game if you have enough skill points (and/or a Signet of Capture) and they will be key in defeating many enemies. For the melee characters, skills may also be comprised of certain attacks rather than spells that are more of a skill for a magic-type user. Paragons and Warriors also make use of adrenaline in order to use these skills. After defeating a certain amount of enemies, taking and receiving damage, adrenaline will rise. Skills make use of energy, found in the blue bar next to the health bar. Skills known as 'Elite Skills' can also be captured by bosses found later in the campaigns.

Players with which primary/secondary profession will be able to use a pet in battle? The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

Ranger. The Ranger profession has the Beast Mastery attribute which allows it to charm a beast found in the explorable areas of a campaign. Depending on where a player is, they can find different animals to gain as pets (eg. Lynxes, Bears, Tigers, Flamingos, Moa Birds, etc.). Once a pet is charmed it will appear on the party toolbar and can be somewhat controlled by the player. Certain skills will allow a Ranger to control a pet's skills as well. Like players and Heroes, pets have a level cap of 20.

Battling other players in PvP can also be quite the challenge. If you're participating in a guild battle, you can earn Faction for the side that you are on. Besides Kurzick and Luxon Faction, what type of Faction can also be obtained? The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

Balthazar . In the lands of "Guild Wars", Balthazar is the God of War and Fire. In Guild Battles as well as arenas and tournaments, you can earn Balthazar Faction by defeating your opponents. When you have earned enough, you can redeem the points for heroes, skills, and special items at a Priest of Balthazar, and you can use them on your PvP characters. Statues of Balthazar can be found throughout the campaigns.

How many henchmen can be assigned to your team in Shing Jea Monastery and Ascalon City (Post-Searing)?The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

Three. If you'd rather not build a party with other members in the game, you can always create a group from henchmen that are usually located near the entrance/exit to an area. These are often comprised of healers, fighters, casters, and more. As you progress through a campaign, the henchmen will increase in level and stregth and the amount of henchmen you can hold will increase to a party size of eight. You can not customize henchmen.

What happens to a party when all members are killed in an explorable, non-mission area? The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

They are resurrected at a shrine. If all players are killed, they are sent to the resurrction shrine in an area and are given the immediate 15% Death Penalty. This isn't necessary though. Players with Monk or Non-Attribute skills also have the ability to resurrect or restore life in other players once they have fallen in battle, but this may come at great risk. Players will still suffer the penalty following this. there may be multiple shrines in an area, but in a mission, once the entire party dies, they must return to the mission entrance/outpost. Alliance Battles make use of the shrine as it is a timed battle.

Which profession is not considered a caster profession? The Art of Battle in "Guild Wars"

Dervish. Dervish is primarily a melee class as it uses a scythe and prayers (earth and wind) in order to enhance strength. The other three professions are casters as they usually use ranged spells in order to participate in battle. Elementalists use the powers of the elements to attack enemies or support the party. Mesmers often use hexes and degeneration spells to lower enemy health. Monks are primarily a support class and are rarely used for their smiting skills. This is due to the fact that they posess many strong healing skills that can keep the party alive in battle.

What well-known skill enables someone with either a monk primary or secondary profession to receive damage equal to 10% of their maximum health?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

Protective Spirit. Protective Spirit is used in a lot of monk farming builds to enable the monk to receive small amounts of damage that can be countered with small healing spells or high health regen. The icon is a picture of a blue-coloured Bhudda-like head. In Guild Wars Eye of the North, the Protective Spirit face is shown on the walls of some of the dungeons.

What non-unique sword has one of the rarest skins in the game?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

Icy Dragon Sword. The Icy Dragon Sword drops in multiple places: Mineral Springs in the 'Prophecies' Campaign, two areas east of Granite Citadel; the other area of note is in some areas in Guild Wars Eye of the North. Rare skin drops happen randomly from bosses and other general mobs. The Icy Dragon Sword looks almost identical to the Fiery Dragon Sword, except for its icy-blue colour. Granite Citadel is the closest outpost or city to Mineral Springs, as Mineral Springs is a 'Dead-End' area, meaning there is no second path leading out of it.

What famous battle-cry is also an Elite Warrior Shout?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

'Charge!'. 'Charge!' is a useful skill for Warrior running builds, as it increases the speed of the shouter and all nearby party members within earshot. It is also useful if the Warrior and his party need to make a hasty retreat or if they need to get into a battle quickly, to power up certain skills or just to quickly get to the action.

What is a 55?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

A monk farming build. The 55 build is one of the most commonly known and although farming has mostly been nerfed, it's one of the most commonly used farming builds available. It works on the principle that when a Monk has fifty-five health (from equipping five Superior Attribute Runes and using the -50HP Grim Cesta) it can use Protective Spirit to take only 5 damage a hit. The monk also uses high health regen spells (like Healing Breeze) to keep its health at maximum, while using per-hit or per-second damage enchantments (like Retribution) or knockdown spells (like Shield of Judgement) to damage their foes.

What does the abbreviation 'MM' stand for?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

Minion Master. A Minion Master is a N/Mo (Necromancer/Monk) who uses Death animation spells like Animate Bone Golem and Animate Flesh Golem to summon undead minions, and Death spells like Blood of the Master and Healing Prayers like Heal Area to maintain the health of the minions. While the number of minions currently animated appears on a Necromancer's UI (User Interface), the health bars of the Minions do not show up, making an MM's main task of keeping the health of his minions as high as possible a challenging one. A new, more useful elite skill for MM's that appears in Guild Wars Eye of the North (instead of Animate Flesh Golem) is the elite enchantment Jagged Bones. While active, any summoned minions who die spawn more minions, effectively making an infinite supply of minions for the MM.

What are the 'Factions' Campaign's end-game green daggers that are featured on the last boss, both in the fight and in the in-game movies called?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

Shiro's Blades. Shiro's Blades, like Shiro's Sword (one of the other 'Factions' end-game green items), is a requirement thirteen weapon (13 dagger mastery) that does less than twenty maximum damage. It has the equivalent of a Vampiric mod on it, and gives +30HP. The 13 attribute requirment makes it very difficult for any player, assassin or otherwise to use it, because the maximum level an attribute can be at without any runes or head armour bonuses is 12. This forces the player to: 1) have an assassin or 2) get either a +1 dagger mastery head piece or to get a minor, major, or superior rune of dagger mastery in order to be able to get the full effect of the weapon. Another end-game green dagger offered when you beat the game is the Ceremonial Daggers, which were presumably to be used by Emperor Kisu's predecessor to kill Shiro in the Harvest Temple.

How does a player get the gold item 'Mini Grey Giant'?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

As a promotional gift from 'PC Gamer'. In addition to that magazine, there have been other subsequent promotional magazine mini-pet offers. One of these other offers was the Destroyer Minipet, which could be aquired through the purchase of the Ultimate Guild Wars Guide.

What are all of the playable races in 'Guild Wars', excluding Heroes?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

Humans Only. Humans are the only character race available to players. An exception to this is the hero henchman Zhed the Centaur, who is a Elementalist. He is the one of the only instances of a partially-playable character who is not human. With the release of Guild Wars Eye of the North, other races for your heroes were released, including the Norn hero Jora, the Dwarven hero Ogden, the Charr hero Pyre Fierceshot, and the Asura hero Vekk. Players in Guild Wars Eye of the North are also able to control, to a limited degree, the Golems that the Asura use.

What are all of the classes available to a player who owns all three campaigns in 'Guild Wars'?'Guild Wars' General Knowledge

Warrior, Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer, Ranger, Elementalist, Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, Dervish. These ten classes are unbalanced in favour of spellcaster classes. There are only three melee classes, one of which has spellcaster stats and support (70 AL) armour (the Dervish), yet has a weapon mastery like the other melee-specific classes (Warrior and Assassin). With the introduction to the 'Prophecies' Campaign, the original six professions were offered: Mesmers, Elementalists, Necromancers, Rangers, Monks and Warriors. Mesmers cast degeneration spells to bring a foe's health down quickly, while Elementalists have Fire, Earth, Air and Water spells at their disposal. Necromancers can raise the dead or curse their foes and make them wish they were dead, and Rangers have pets who can attack while they shoot arrows from a distance. Monks heal and protect party members with spells and smite their enemies, while Warriors, the only melee class in the original 'Prophecies' campaign, can make use of Hammers, Axes or Swords to deal massive amounts of damage. With the inclusion of the 'Factions' campaign, players are given access to the Assassin and Ritualist classes. The Assassin uses the shadows to reach their foes and attack small but deadly daggers, while the Ritualist summons spirits from the Underworld to provide protection to their party while holding the ashes of past Heroes to gain their power for a short time. With the inclusion of the 'Nightfall' campaign, players are given access to the Paragon and Dervish classes. The Paragon uses spears to damage foes from a distance and shouts echoes and chants to help party members, while the Dervish uses its spinning scythe to damage all adjacent foes and Wind and Earth Prayers to heal and buff party members. No one class is unbeatable, and every class has at least one weakness, making the game one of the most balanced and fun to play.

Whenever there is more than one of the same hero in a party, one remains the original, and the other "copies" have their name replaced with a description (i.e. Koss appears as "Sunspear Warrior" when there is more than one). Which hero has the description of "Young Monk?""Guild Wars" Heroes

Tahlkora. This occurrence is not limited to party members. When there is more than one of the same hero in an area (such as the Command Post outside of the Sunspear Sanctuary), the hero becomes an NPC while the other within the party changes to a generic title.

Which hero is obtained after completing the quest "All for One and One for Justice?""Guild Wars" Heroes

Olias. Olias and Zenmai are two special heroes, as they are completely optional and require the campaigns of "Prophecies" and "Factions" respectively to have them join the party. The quest "All for One and One for Justice" rewards Olias joining the party upon completion.

How many heroes are there in total?"Guild Wars" Heroes

      26. There are 26 heroes: Koss, Dunkoro, Melonni, Acolyte Jin, Acolyte Sousuke, Tahlkora, Olias, Zenmai, Zhed Shadowhoof, Margrid the Sly, Master of Whispers, Goren, Norgu, General Morgahn, Razah, Ogden Stonehealer, Vekk, Gwen, Xandra, Kahmu, Livia, Hayda, Pyre Fierceshot, Anton, Jora, and M.O.X.. Fifteen (including M.O.X.) are obtainable in the "Nightfall" campaign, and the other eleven are found in "Eye of the North".

Regarding the basic idea of Player vs. Player, is it possible to face off against players in instanced environments (eg. Old Ascalon, Jahai Bluffs, etc.)?"Guild Wars"...But Only PvP

No. Although the game does wholeheartedly support PvP interactions in game, so much so as to offer numerous alternatives, “Guild Wars” in turn differs from game like “World of Warcraft” as it does not allow players to attack other players in PvE (Player vs. Environment) locations or towns. Because of this, it is quite difficult to face off against players in 1 on 1 battles, though it can be done as long as players don’t expect to do so on the beaten path. Players can do this through their own guild, or if they’re lucky, through a timed battle elsewhere in the game.

What is the final battle location of Heroes’ Ascent?"Guild Wars"...But Only PvP

Hall of Heroes (The Vault, The Underworld, Forgotten Shrines). Heroes’ Ascent is a strictly-PvP environment in which players can take any character (at level 20) and play in groups of eight, one against another, to capture the ultimate prize that is the Hall of Heroes reward. Getting there is difficult though as often, there are many other teams of eight vying for their chance to win the ultimate reward as well. Many battle arenas, from the Underworld, to the Fetid River, to the Courtyard, and the Hall of Heroes itself, players can test their mettle as a group to win as a random team or as a guild group. Each consecutive battle won will result in Fame points, which in turn result in a ‘Hero’ title. At every third level of this title, the player character (though the title is account-wide) can perform a specialized reward emote.

Players of the Kurzick alliance can play for Kurzick faction in Alliance Battles. What other faction can they claim at the same time?"Guild Wars"...But Only PvP

Balthazar. When a player jumps into any Alliance Battle, they’ll be on one of the two warring sides, the Kurzick and Luxon sides, and this will reflect guild choice. While the Kurzick side resides in Echovald Forest, the Luxons reside in the Jade Sea, and both of these factions will cross as the players fight alongside each other in Harvest Temple/Unwaking Waters, and beyond. The higher alliance faction your guild has, the more highly-esteemed they are, allowing for towns and outposts to be owned by said alliances. The largest Kurzick town is House Zu Heltzer while the largest Luxon town is Cavalon. Alliance faction can also be used to obtain Amber and Jade, each of which are used to create faction-specific armor sets.

Which Alliance Battle location favours Luxon troops most?"Guild Wars"...But Only PvP

Kanaai Canyon. There are five possible locations for Alliance Battles in Cantha. The location with the highest Luxon favour will be Kanaai Canyon, featuring a large Luxon base surrounded by Kurz forces. The Kurzick equivalent of this location is the Ancestral Tombs. The Ersatz Coast is a Luxon favored area while Grenz Frontier is for Kurzick benefit. Saltspray Beach is dead even, with a symmetrical playing field. Alliance Battle locations are always determined by faction control in Cantha. If Luxons take control of Kurzick outposts, for example, the arena will shift in order to give Kurzicks a fair advantage. This will also affect PvE environments as well, restricting basic services if you are in a town that is not owned by your faction. Alliance Battles are only reachable through a guild hall.

Balthazar faction can be used to unlock items and skills from the Priest of Balthazar. What else can it do directly?"Guild Wars"...But Only PvP

Be used to obtain Zaishen Keys. Balthazar Faction is a bit more difficult to obtain than the other two alliance factions solely because it relies on the result of certain battles. Every time a player character accumulates five thousand Balthazar faction, a Zaishen Key is an optional reward given by the Priest of Balthazar (who can be found in various locations). This key can in turn be used on the Zaishen Chest on the Battle Isles, and every time a key is used it goes towards another title track. Balthazar faction can also be used to gain PvP player rewards. If you give a Priest of Balthazar a certain amount of this faction, you can unlock skills, both elite and regular, heroes, and option item upgrades.
