Fun Trivia: 2 : 2000s WS

Special Sub-Topic: 2007 World Series

The Rockies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NCLS, earning them a trip to the 2007 World Series. Who did Boston defeat in the ALCS?

Cleveland Indians. Colorado put Arizona down in a four game to none skunking. The Red Sox won over the Indians, four games to three, including the last three games of the ALCS.

In game one of the World Series, which pitcher set the stage by striking out the first four Rockies batters in the game?
Josh Beckett. The Red Sox pummeled the Rockies 13-1. Beckett was the first pitcher to strike out the first four batters in a World Series, since Sandy Koufax struck out the first five Yankees in the 1963 series. Beckett's victims were Willy Taveras, Kaz Matsui, Matt Holliday, and Todd Helton. Boston scored three runs in the first, one in the second, two in the fourth, then seven in the seventh inning. The Red Sox banged out 17 hits on the six Colorado pitchers.

In game one of the series, who was the Colorado Rockies player to have the only RBI in the game?
Troy Tulowitzki. Tulowitzki hit a double in the second innning which scored Garrett Atkins. This would be it for the Colorado scoring in the game. Tulowitzki went 2-for-3 in the game. The Sox won the game, 13-1.

Game two of the World Series was played in Boston, as was game one. The Rockies started with leading 1-0 before the Red Sox even came to bat. But, like game one, the Rockies would see no more runs. The Red Sox won the game by a score of what?
2-1. The Rockies out-hit the Red Sox with only a 6-5 margin. The Red Sox scored in the fourth and fifth, and this would be all they needed. Boston's Curt Schilling took the win and Jonathan Papelbon got the save.

Game three of the 2007 World Series watched the Red Sox, who would not pause for anything after two previous wins. They exploded for six runs in the third inning to chase which Colorado starting pitcher?
Josh Fogg. As a result, Fogg's series ERA was a dismal 20.25, not one that would bring back positive memories to grandchildren. He gave up the six runs amongst 10 hits before being given the hook for Franklin Morales in the third inning. Boston won game three 10-5, and did it without hitting a home run.

In game four of the 2007 World Series, the Red Sox continued to pound the Rockies, at Colorado, by scoring in the first inning. Who hit Boston's first RBI?
David Ortiz. Ortiz singled to right after Jacoby Ellsbury's double, scoring Jacoby. Manny hit into a double-play to end the first inning. The Sox went on to win the World Series, four games to none.

In game four and the final game in the series, the Rockies fought back hard. Which two Rockies hit home runs in the 7th and 8th innings of the game?
Brad Hawpe and Garrett Atkins. The other options all had Boston players intermixed. It was Hawpe who hit the solo home run off Delcarmen, and Atkins who hit his shot off Okajima in the 8th inning.

Game four of the series ended with the Red Sox winning it all with what score?
4-3. The Red Sox scored in the first, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings, to win the crown 4-3. Jon Lester, who went only 4-0 in the regular season, took the win. Aaron Cook, who went 8-7 in the season, took the loss for the Rockies.

Which player took the 2007 World Series MVP title?
Mike Lowell. Lowell went 6-for-15, hitting .400 with three doubles and a home run with four RBIs. It was a close ballot as fellow Bostonian Jacoby Ellsbury went 7-for-16 with four doubles and three RBIs, while hitting .438.

Which of the following starting players on either team did not live up to expectations, and struck out the most times in the series?
Brad Hawpe. The outfielder went 4-for-16 while striking out eight times.
