Question 6 of 10
6. When a regular viewer of 'EastEnders' thinks of Peggy Mitchell they think of Barbara Windsor, small and feisty, with the catchphrase "Get out of my pub!", but the original Peggy was not like that at all; she was large and resembled a steamroller! When did we meet this first Peggy? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Michelle Fowler married George Holloway in 1986 in order to provide a stable home for herself and her baby, Vicky. Sadly the marriage did not last long, as they were not really compatible. George was not known by his given name, though, but a nickname. What was it?

Answer: (one word - five letters)
Question 8 of 10
8. Teenage heart-throb Jamie first appeared in 'EastEnders' when Phil went visiting him as he lived with Billy Mitchell. He was to become a resident of the Square after Phil found out that Billy had been beating him up on a regular basis; Billy was to follow and harass Jamie for some months before Jamie had the guts to stand up to him. Later Billy was to marry Little Mo, becoming the stable loving husband she craved after living with the wife-beating sadist Trevor for many years. What a transformation! The relationships within the Mitchell family are a little confusing - but what extra connection linked Phil and Jamie? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. When Mickey Miller's family arrived on the Square the residents were surprised to see an ice-cream van helping with the removals. This was driven by Mickey's Uncle Clint, who has appeared periodically since then. In the episode when Minty revealed his first name, we learn the history behind Uncle Clint's name. What was it? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. In the early years of 'EastEnders' Mark Fowler was a tearaway son who was influenced by Nasty Nick Cotton and was involved with all kinds of petty crime and drugs. A prolonged absence followed, during which we learn very little of him, as he was not one to keep in touch, then he returned, a changed man. Not only was he played by a different actor, but his recent diagnosis of being HIV positive changed him to a family-loving reliable man. In spite of his health, Mark led a full romantic life, and actually got married - but how many times did he say 'I do'? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Billy Mitchell gave Janine Butcher a shih tzu for her birthday he told her the dog's name, but it was never to be mentioned again! In a perverse joke against Terry Raymond, Janine named the female pooch after him - Terence, but what was the dog's real name?

Answer: Princess Ivory Orchid III

Sometimes, when Terence appears, her gender is mixed in the script - maybe her name has confused the EastEnders as to what she really is! As a human belonging to a shih tzu myself, I often wonder how Billy manages to find the time to groom his pet (Janine gave up on the dog in true Janine fashion), because she always appears in lovely condition.
2. Virtually every woman in the Square has changed their name at some point in their lives, but one, Pat, has had five surnames to 2004. She has been Mrs Pete Beale (and sister-in-law to Pauline Fowler), Mrs Wicks (and mother to Simon and David), Mrs Frank Butcher (and step-mother to Ricky, who was married to her granddaughter Bianca) and Mrs Roy Evans (being widowed in 2003). But what was the surname she was given at birth?

Answer: Harris

Mo Harris, matriarch of the Slater family, is Pat's sister-in-law, having married Pat's brother Jimmy. A special spin-off episode was shown in 2004 explaining the animosity between these two, who used to be such friends; Pat had seen Mo in dalliance with another man and felt it her duty to tell her brother.

This all but destroyed the marriage, and Mo could never bring herself to forgive her old friend, especially as she had got the wrong end of the stick.
3. Nicknames are often used to the exclusion of a given name, and one example of this is Minty Peterson. Minty has admitted his Christian name at least once - but what is it?

Answer: Richard

Minty underwent a bit of a character change in his time on the Square, starting as a heavy who has become a light-weight comic character. He is basically a good chap who is not taken seriously and consequently is somewhat frustrated.
4. One of the most incredible character changes was with Jim Branning; he was first seen at his daughter's wedding in 1996 when he was angry at having a black man join his family. A committed racist, Jim came to live in the Square, and soon counted a black man as his best friend and partner in many amusing 'crimes'! Who was this best friend?

Answer: Patrick

Perhaps the script writers thought that having such a dominant character trait in a regular cast member would be difficult, so hoped that viewers would not notice the sudden transformation. Unfortunately such metamorphoses do not happen in real life.
5. While female cast members could expect to have a name change on marriage, one little girl underwent such a change while still unable to speak for herself. Louise Fowler's name was changed to Mitchell once her real father took over her life - but he did not change her first name. After whom was this little girl named?

Answer: her step-father's grandmother

Louise's mother, Lisa, was pregnant by Phil Mitchell, and Mark Fowler laid claim to paternity in order to save Lisa and the baby from the local mobster. Convincing the whole Square that he was the father of her child, it was not difficult to name the baby for his grandmother, Lou Beale. Pauline, his mother, was not happy about it because she alone (at first) knew that the baby was not her blood granddaughter.

Answer: at Sam's wedding to Ricky

Daughter Sam ran off to Scotland with Ricky in 1991 and was pursued by both families. It was at this time that we see Peggy Mitchell for the first time (played by Jo Warne). It was such a difference to see the diminutive Barbara Windsor in the role some months later - but again, perhaps we were not meant to notice.
7. Michelle Fowler married George Holloway in 1986 in order to provide a stable home for herself and her baby, Vicky. Sadly the marriage did not last long, as they were not really compatible. George was not known by his given name, though, but a nickname. What was it?

Answer: Lofty

Lofty is a well-known character even though he was only in the soap for three years; his pathetic doggy persona was perfect alongside the more brash characters of those days, including Dirty Den (Vicky's father) and was a perfect foil for teenage Michelle's transformation to adulthood.

Answer: Phil was Jamie's Godfather

Perry Fenwick, who plays Billy Mitchell, looks a hard character, but Billy's persona has changed over the years, even though he has had periods working for the less respectable members of the community, such as Phil Mitchell, Andy Hunter and Johnny Allen. Unfortunately his marriage to Little Mo did not last, as he was unable to accept Freddie as his son, being the result of the rape of his wife by Graham Foster, which he felt he should have prevented happening.

Answer: he hated his name, so became 'the man with no name'

I'm not totally certain, as it was only revealed once, but I think Clint's given name was Marion or Beverly (I am happy to be corrected!). Hating this, he became 'the man with no name' and took the nickname 'Clint' as a result. Really, parents should think about the life their children will have to lead before they bestow unsuitable names on their babies!

Answer: 3

He married Gill, who had infected him with HIV, the day before she died. Ruth was his second wife; after she had an affair with his cousin, she left for Scotland where she is likely still living with the child of that liaison. Left pregnant by Phil Mitchell, Lisa Shaw turned to Mark for support, and they married to give baby Louise security.

It was not to last, though, as Phil set out to get both Lisa and Louise and he destroyed the little family. Mark was later to leave the Square because he found out that the virus had turned to AIDS and did not want to submit his family to witnessing his slow death.
