    August Horch. August Horch was an engineer with Benz, before moving on to build his own Horch cars. In 1910 after disagreements with the board, he left to form another car company, calling it Audi, a latin version of his name.

    DKW. DKW was founded by J S Rasmussen and became one of the leading motorcycle manufacturers. They also produced a two cylinder car called the DKW Front, a highly popular small car. The four joint companies produced the famous 4 ring emblem, still used on all Audis.

After World War 2, the Russians occupied the site of the Auto Union company and the carmakers moved to ____ in Bavaria, changing their name to Auto Union GmbH.
    Ingolstadt. The Ingolstadt factory initially produced the DKW motorcycles and vans, until a new car factory in Ingolstadt was built in 1959.
