Bandy is played on which type of surface?

    Ice. That's why Africa was slow to catch on to the sport. It is also played while wearing skates.

How many players are allowed from each team to play at one time?
    11. Bandy used only one goalkeeper. Youth league can play with as little as 7 players.

Do all the players use a stick?
    n. The goalkeeper doesn't use a stick. They are supposed to catch the ball and throw it to a player on their team.

How many periods/halves are there in a game?
    2. Two halves, just like soccer or NCAA basketball.

How long time is each period/half?
    45 minutes. Like most soccer games, it consists of two halves which are 45 minutes each. Organized youth leagues are shorter.

How often is the World Championship in bandy played?
    Every year. Between 1957 and 2003 it was held every second year. In 2004, it was changed to an annual format.

Which year was the first World Championship played?
    1957. It was held in Finland. The Soviet Union won. Three countries competed, Soviets, Finland, and Sweden.

Bandy is played with what type of ball?
    Cork and rubber. The center is of cork, covered with hard rubber. It's the size of a tennis ball and is really fast moving.

What color is a bandy ball?
    Orange. It's easier to see an orange ball on the white ice. In the past, neither the fans or goalkeeper could see the white ball until it was changed to orange.

From which country did bandy originate?
    England. Bury Fen is considered the home of bandy. The National Bandy Association was established in 1891.
