    y. The breath test is most commonly used by police, because it will give an immediate result as to the alcohol level of the suspect, by measuring alcohol released by the body through the lungs. However, there is a sweat patch that can be used to test for drug and alcohol use. There are only a limited number of labs that can process these kind of tests though, so they are not commonly encountered.

The controversial polygraph test uses sweat as a way to tell if a person is lying or telling the truth. What year was the lie detector invented?
    1921. John Larson invented the test in 1921. It began to be used by police departments in interrogations in 1924.

Humans use sweat to cool their bodies. Since dogs have very few sweat glands they have another way to keep their bodies cool. What is that?
    Pant & panting. Dogs only had sweat glands on the pads of their feet, so they pant as a way to get rid of excess body heat.

    Lewisite. Lewisite is a blistering agent, which was first used in World War I.

You may know that cutting onions can make you cry. Do you know what substance the onion causes to form in your eyes that irritates them?
    sulfuric acid. Amino acid sulfoxides are released from the onion and are decomposed by enzymes, forming sulfenic acids, which change into gases. These gases reach the eye and then react with the water that keeps them moist, forming a mild sulfuric acid.
