This region of France is squeezed between these two historic areas of north western France. The main city is Le Mans, and was historical often fought over by the Counts of Anjou and Dukes of Normandy.

2. What area of Canada used to be called Acadia by the French and whose French population was ethnically cleansed in 1755/6 after the victory of the British/Americans?

Answer: Nova Scotia

Initially settled by the French, this area was often fought over with the British. The fort of Louisburg on Cape Breton Island famously fell to the British and was later returned. The French were finally expelled in 1755 by Governor Shirley of Massachusetts.

Dunedin is the old name for Edinburgh. The meaning is unsure, it may be the fort (Dun being Celtic for fort) of King Edwin (Northumbrian king who took the area from Goddodin Celts in the 7th Century) but it also may be the fort of the shrubs.
