Wild Rose.

    Alberta. Wild roses are large, fragrant, pink flowers that grow on thorny shrubs. These shrubs can grow up to fifteen meters tall. When the flowers drop off, bright red seed pods or 'hips' are seen. These are highly nutritious and can be made into jams and jellies.

Purple Violet.
    New Brunswick. Purple violets bloom from spring until late in October. They prefer moist areas like damp forests and along river banks.

White Trillium.
    Ontario. The white trillium is an elegant spring flower whose flower parts occur in 'threes'..thus the name trillium. It is also known as a 'wake robin' flower because it blooms at about the same time robins return for the spring.

Lady Slipper.
    Prince Edward Island. The lady slipper is actually a wild orchid. It likes to grow in bogs and wet woods. They bloom in late May through June.

Prairie Crocus.
    Manitoba. The mauve petals of the prairie crocus are the first blooms you will see on the Prairies each year hearlding the imminent arrival of spring. They are actually not a crocus, but are related to the buttercup family.

Madonna lily
    Quebec. The blue flag or fleur-de-lis, is also important to people in Quebec. It is a pretty wild orchid with large bluish-purple flowers that have yellow and white markings near the base of the petals.

Mayflower.
    Nova Scotia. The mayflower has delicate pink, sweet-scented blossoms. On April 4, 1901, it was offically declared the floral emblem of NS.

Pitcher Plant.
    Newfoundland and Labrador. The pitcher plant has tube shaped leaves that collect water and trap insects. When an insect gets trapped, chemicals in the plant dissolve the insect's body and the liquids are absorbed as food.

Western Red Lily.
    Saskatchewan. The western red lily became Saskatchewan's official floral emblem in 1941. It likes to grow in semi-wooded areas and moist meadows.

Pacific Dogwood.
    British Columbia. It is illegal to dig up or cut down a dogwood. It produces pretty white flowers. Its fruit and foliage attract birds, bears, beaver and deer.
