    Lefty O'Toole. Lefty tries to make a daring escape by throwing the car keys into the desert and taking off, but he is shot dead.

What did Joanna's dad call her?
    Little Hank. Though Joanna's mother disapproved, her father taught her how to shoot a gun and how to defend herself, including the art of dislocating a person's thumb.

    f. He was killed while trying to help a woman change a spare tire. Joanna saw the whole thing and was very young at the time.

What county does Joanna live in?
    Cochise. She lives on a ranch outside of Bisbee, Arizona.

What was the nickname of Joanna's father?
    Desert Heat. This is mentioned at the end of the book. His colleagues joked about him always using the initials D.H., and since he was a cop, Desert Heat made sense.

Angie Kellogg escapes from Tony.
    t. When he tells her to pack, she knows that it is time to take flight, so she runs away and tries to lose him, but he finds her and she has to keep running.

Everyone says Andy's cause of death is this.
    suicide. Everyone but Joanna thinks that Andy killed himself, but she sets out to prove them wrong.

Who is the dirty cop who worked with Tony?
    Ken. At the end we find out that indeed it was Ken. It is also revealed that Walter McFadden was in on it too. He was paid to look the other way.

What does Eleanor give Joanna?
    her father's badge. She believes that Joanna should have it as a memento of her father. Joanna hints that she'll give Andy's badge to Jenny.

What kind of book does Angie carry around with her all the time?
    birdwatching book. It is a tattered old book, but Angie cherishes it.
