    Peel. Robert Peel was born in 1788 and died in 1850. He was a Conservative member of Parliament and it was during his office as Home Secretary that he established the Metropolitan Police. The first policemen were known as "peelers" or "bobbies," a name which survives to this day.

The 1980s saw the peak of his popularity with "Addicted to Love" being a hit in 1986 and "Simply Irresistible" in 1988.
