Having the same name as a part of Canada, this beloved dog is playful, hard working and a good friend. It is often used as a guide dog for the disabled, a search-and-rescue dog, and a detector of narcotics. It's a member of the Sporting Group.

    Labrador Retriever. The Chocolate Lab is one variety of the Labrador Retriever.

This dog has the same name as a British fighter jet. It's a member of the Hound group and looks like a small English Fox Hound, but its personality is like a Beagle's.
    Harrier. The Harrier is so named because it harries or chases game. The Harrier is also a famed British jump jet. The Chow Chow has a black tongue. Chihuahuas have been known to do commercials.

This breed is named after a region of Turkey. It is indispensable to the shepherds of Turkey, helping to protect the herds from predators. It belongs to the working group.
    Anatolian Shepherd Dog. The AKC describes the Anatolian as a majestic, noble animal.

This large, loving dog, a member of the working group, has the same name as a person of long ago. The breed is famous for its very valuable work for mankind, especially in Europe.
    Saint Bernard & St Bernard & St. Bernard. The Saint Bernard is usually pictured with a small cask of brandy around its neck, on a mission to save people stranded in the Alps. "Beethoven" is probably the best-known movie about a Saint Bernard.

This very strong breed, a member of the working group, was originally bred in Japan for such tough assignments as hunting bears! Today the Japanese use it as a watchdog.

This dog has the same name as a place in Yorkshire, although "Yorkshire" is not part of the name. Good natured and fun loving, the breed belongs to the terrier group. It was registered with the American Kennel Club way back in 1888.
    Airedale. The Airedale just looks as if it's always ready for a good time.

This breed, often associated with a country in Europe, is a smart, proud dog and makes an excellent companion. By American Kennel Club standards, it comes in three sizes. Two sizes are members of the non-sporting group and one is a member of the toy group. European clubs divide the breed into four classifications.
    Poodle. The stereotype of the poodle is that it's a spoiled, rich woman's dog, but it ain't necessarily so.

This breed, a member of the toy group, is sweet and playful. Its coat is so long it seems to be cleaning the floor as it walks. The coat can make the dog very uncomfortable in warm weather, and it needs grooming every day. It is of Chinese ancestry, and the name consists of two words.
    Shih Tzu&shih-tzu. A bow on the top of the head can keep the coat out of the Shih Tzu's eyes.

When most people think "shaggy dog," they think of this large breed, a member of the herding group.
    Old English Sheepdog. According to the AKC, the Old English Sheepdog is "profusely, but not excessively, coated."
