Fun Trivia: B : Beast Wars

Special Sub-Topic: Episode 7: Fallen Comrades

The fastest way to reach the stasis pod was by air. Who, apart from Optimus, was a Maximal flier?

No one. Optimus was the only Maximal flier for the longest time, and only in robot mode. He could still take on both Waspinator and Terrorsaur with ease, though, both of which could fly in beast mode as well. Other fliers would be introduced later in the series, such as Airazor and Inferno. In season two, in which many transformers gained new bodies, and with new characters being introduced, many transformers ended up having the ability to fly. For the first while, though, the lack of flight proved to be a major obstacle that both factions had to adapt to.

Who insisted on scanning the area for Predacons before letting Optimus Primal fly away?
Dinobot. Dinobot suspected that Megatron would send a party to ambush Optimus in order to remove the Maximals' ability to fly to the pod. Optimus allowed for a quick panoramic scan of the area, during which Dinobot found nothing. He requested that he be allowed to go and scout the area before letting Optimus expose himself, but Optimus was impatient, wanting to get to the pod before the Predacons, and went out anyway. Optimus activated his jets and turned around for a second to give some last-minute orders when he was suddenly shot down, taking him out of the race for the pod.

Which two Predacons did end up ambushing Optimus?
Terrorsaur and Waspinator. Waspinator and Terrorsaur were selected as they could quickly get in range for an ambush, and quickly retreat. Waspinator hit Optimus first, but Terrorsaur knocked him from the sky. Dinobot returned fire, and caused a large boulder to crush Waspinator, but by then, it was too late. The Predacons returned to base to prepare for their flight for the pod. Dinobot was convinced that Optimus was done for, and promised that his funeral would be a glorious one, but Optimus managed to survive the ordeal.

Which Maximal did not go to the stasis pod?
Dinobot. Because Dinobot's weapons were depleted from the scuffle with Terrorsaur and Waspinator, he was chosen to stay behind and guard the Axalon and Optimus, who was in the CR chamber. Rattrap, Cheetor, and Rhinox were chosen to race 100km northward to the pod, which seemed to be in prehistoric Europe. The map on the Predacon screen resembled prehistoric Earth, with skewered, but recognizable continents. It also had the India plate in the middle of the ocean still, and with Australia down by Antarctica. However, the map was also backwards, with East being west and vice versa. This was a trap door, as the writers did not know if "Beast Wars" was supposed to be on Earth or not. This episode was the last one in which the metric system was used.

Terrorsaur and Waspinator were the two Predacon fliers, and were selected by Megatron to retrieve the pod. How did they slow down the Maximals in order to gain the advantage in their race?
They destroyed a bridge. There was an ice bridge spanning a long and deep canyon. The Maximals decided to transform and attack when the Predacons drew near, instead of running across the bridge. As a result, the two Preds flew right through each end of the bridge, causing it to fall. This seriously set back the Maximals, and guaranteed that the Predacons would be the first to the pod.

In order to get a signal to the pod first, the Maximals back at the Axalon decided to try a laser pulse transmission. What did they bounce it off of to get their signal to the pod?
The moon. Rattrap radioed in the delay, and Dinobot tried to think of a solution to amend this setback. He activated Optimus' core consciences from the CR chamber. Comlinks did not have enough range to reach the pod, and a laser pulse was a line-of-sight transmission technique, but they could bounce the signal. Optimus suggested mountains and clouds, but it was Dinobot's idea to use the moon. It was while he was outside, setting up the burst emitter, that the Predacons attacked.

Megatron decided that it would be the perfect time to attack the Axalon with three of the Maximals gone and Optimus in the RC chamber. He took Scorponok and Tarantulas with him and had them go around for a sneak attack. The Maximal on duty, however, activated the autoguns to get rid of them. What did the autoguns use to track their targets?
Motion sensors. Megatron approached Dinobot as he was outside, and proposed that Dinobot rejoin the Predacons, and hand over the defenseless Axalon and Optimus, but Dinbot declined and shot Megatron. Scorponok and Tarantulas, meanwhile, snuck up behind Dinobot and attacked him on Megatron's order. He was shot off the Axalon, and just barely managed to roll away from a second salvo. With his remaining energy, he activated the autoguns that were behind Scorponok and Tarantuals. Tarantuals instantly sidestepped away from the gun, which targeted him first, and blasted him away. Scorponok was completely still, but got nervous and started shaking so violently that the guns were eventually able to sense him also.

With the failed attempt on the Maximal base, Megatron made his was to the stasis pod with exceptional speed. How did he get the Maximals to stand down once he got there?
He threatened some nearby animals. Megatron played on the Maximals' compassion for innocents to get them to stand down. He then got Waspinator to continue opening the pod, but was quite surprised to find it empty...

Who was the new transformer to be introduced in this episode?
Tigatron. Tigatron's beast mode was a snow tiger. He was one of the two animals that Megatron threatened, the other being Snowstalker, the original animal he took his beast mode from. He had no memory of his life before the Beast Wars, due to the crash, and did not know who to affiliate himself with. After seeing the Maximals willing to risk their own lives in order to protect innocent bystanders, he knew that his allegiance belonged to them. Tigatron, though, decided to remain in the wild, as a scout, until his identity circuits repaired themselves, and he knew who he truly was.

Whose transformation sequence did the new transformer's mimic?
Cheetor's. Tigatron was originally supposed to be Wolfang, a wolf character with a new transformation sequence. However, due to time constraints, and difficulty in creating an entirely new character, the animators took Cheetor's transformation sequence, and altered it to fit Tigatron.
