    907. The Tang was founded by Li Shimin. It ruled China from 618-907. The capital was Chang'an and the county's main export was silk.

What years was the "Tulip Period" in the Ottoman Empire?
    1718-1730. The Tulip Period is the time that expensive tulip bulbs from Holland were sold throughout the Ottoman Empire. During this period European clothing and furniture styles were used in the elite class.

In what year was Joan of Arc burned?
    1431. Joan of Arc helped the French in the Hundred Years' War. She was burned at the stake as a witch in Rouen, France.

In what years did the Ming explorer Zheng He go on his expeditions?
    1405-1433. Zheng He, an eunuch, traveled throughout South East Asia and the Indian Ocean for the Ming Empire of China. From his expeditions, China received many gifts. A giraffe was one of their most prized gifts. Also it is now thought that Zhenge He might have been the first person to sail around the world in 1421, however it is not certain yet.

In what year did the Mongols stop their attack on Europe?
    1241. The Mongols were attacking Europe in 1241, hoping to conquer it, when the Great Khan Ogodei died. The Mongols then went back east to select the new Khan and stopped their advance on Europe.

The Hundred Years' War between England and France was not really 100 years long. How long was it really?
    116. The Hundred Years' War started in 1337 and ended in 1453. It was a war between the king of France and his vassals (which included the Kings of England, because their marriages). The conflict started with the marriage of Princess Isabella of France to King Edward II of England. This made their future son, King Edward III of England heir to the throne of France. French courts, upset by this named a distant cousin heir to the throne. Edward deceided to fight for the throne and other English vassals joined in. France finally won the war in 1453.

The first crusade began in 1096. Which of these dates is NOT a beginning date of the remaining three?
    1123. The main purpose of the crusades (although there are other purposes) was to "free" the Holy Land (Jerusalem, etc.) from the Muslims. The first crusade was the most sucessful. The rest were not very sucessful in the Holy Land. The purpose of the forth crusade was not actually to free the Holy Land, but it was to conquer Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, which was Christian.

Okay, we all know Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. But what else happened that year?
    The Jews were expelled from Spain.. Ferdinand and Isabella married in 1469. The Gutenburg Bible was printed in 1454, which was the first book in the West to be printed by movable type. Michelangelo was born in 1472.

In what year did the Catholic Church ban the use of Indians as slaves in the Spanish colonies?
    1542. The New Laws were made in 1542, which abolished the encomienda system. The enocomienda system is what allowed the Spanish to enslave the Indians. The Dominican monk Bartolome de Las Casas was among the main people making the New Laws.
