Steuben, North Carolina. The family travels from Vigor, Indiana to Steuben, North Carolina at the beginning of the story.

Door Man. Each member of the family had a nickname. Dad was Junk Man, Mom was Fish Lady, Stevie was Door Man, Robby was Robot, Elizabeth was Betsy Wetsy and Jeremy was Zap.

The Pirate Game. Step notices that Stevie is playing a mysterious game that he has never seen before. It starts to pique his interest in what his son is doing.

Lee Weeks. Lee Weeks proves to have some interesting ideas about what it means to be a Mormon. He also has several delusions about what he is and what his mission in life is. He is eventually stopped but not before scaring everyone.

Hacker Snack. Step is known to be able to create wonderful code and programming. However, at his new job he is hired as strictly a manual writer and editor, much to his annoyance.

Crickets. The crickets came into the house through a hole in the back of the boys' closet.

Mrs. Jones. For some reason Mrs. Jones had reached her breaking point with teaching and decided to take out her frustrations on Stevie. She would tease him in class for his accent, hide his prize-winning work and ignore him when he tried to answer a question.
|Stevie began talking to his mom about his new friends. What is the correlation that she makes about their names?|
They are the same names as the kids that have recently disappeared. Diane began to keep a list of the children that had disappeared in town and kept the list above the fridge. When she paid attention to the names that Stevie would call out, she realized that they were familiar. Eventually she checked out the list and realized that all of the friends that Stevie now had were the names of the children that had disappeared.
|The old man that had lived in the house prior to Step's family would often come over and offer to help with something. What was his name?|
Bappy. Bappy had an evil side that he referred to as Boy, and it was Boy that made him do the bad things. In the end it was Bappy who had been kidnapping and murdering the children throughout the town and hiding them below his old house. Each time he came over and offered to help he was actually placing another child under the house.
|On what day did Stevie and all of his friends come back and visit with their families?|
Christmas Eve. When Stevie realizes what has happened to all of his friends he attempts to confront Bappy and in doing so is killed. He then spends his time trying to figure out how to let his family see him so that he can teach the other boys to do the same. On Christmas Eve his friends are finally able to do so. They all come and spend the evening with Stevie's family. When the family realizes what is going on they call the police and invite all of the children's parents to come and say good-bye to their children.
