Fun Trivia: F : Famous Animals

Special Sub-Topic: Monkey Madness!

Marcel the monkey was owned by Ross Geller in the sitcom "Friends", but what type of monkey was he?

Capuchin. Marcel was lonely all by himself in Ross’s flat so he started getting a bit frisky. He moved to San Diego Zoo but was later discovered to be starring in beer advertisements and the last time the gang saw him, he was filming "Outbreak 2: The Virus takes Manhattan". Marcel was actually played by two female monkeys, one of which starred in the original "Outbreak" film (www.imdb.com).

In the film "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back", what kind of primate do Jay and Silent Bob end up with?
Orangutan. The guys free the orangutan, along with other things, from an animal testing lab after being tricked into it by a gang of diamond-stealing lovelies. To cut a long story short, it all ends well for them and they walk into the sunset together.

Which show does this quotation come from: "Look at those poor saps back on land with their laws and ethics! They'll never know the simple joys of a monkey knife fight."
The Simpsons. This comes from the episode "The Mansion Family" where the Simpsons get to house-sit Mr. Burns' mansion. They take his boat out for a spin and when they reach international waters, find out they can do all sorts of crazy things!

Who played Zaius (General Thade's father) in Tim Burton's remake of "Planet of the Apes"?
Charlton Heston. In this later version, Heston plays an ape and his last word are "Damn them! Damn them all to Hell!" which is pretty funny as in the original version he played the human astronaut, cursing the apes. In the Tim Burton film, Mark Wahlberg plays the human astronaut, Tim Roth is General Thade and I put Johnny Depp in as this is one of the few Tim Burton films he's not in!

What's the name of the orangutan in "Every Which Way But Loose"?
Clyde. This is a buddy movie with a difference! Clint Eastwood and a monkey drive about having high jinks and getting into fights...until a lady comes along. The sequel to this, "Any Which Way You Can", was also a hit but Clyde was played by a different orangutan as the original one had grown too much between the films (www.imdb.com).

What was the ship's monkey called in "Pirates of the Caribbean"?
Jack. "Pirates of the Caribbean" was a swashbuckling film starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush as his enemy Barbossa. The following quotation comes from when Barbossa and his crew are attacking Jack's ship: Barbossa: "Thank you, Jack" Jack Sparrow: "You’re welcome" Barbossa: "Not you, we called the monkey Jack." Great film, evil monkey.

In which primate-sounding computer game is Guybrush Threepwood the hero?
Monkey Island. "Monkey Island" was and is a great computer game, spawning several sequels as it tells of the mighty pirate Guybrush Threepwood and his battles against the evil pirate LeChuck. "Chimp's Challenge" is a play on "Chip's Challenge", a game where you guide Chip around the levels and solve puzzles like finding keys, working out combinations etc. "The Simians" is a play on "The Sims" - a hugely popular genre of computer games where you build and control a simulated group of people. You'd never believe I constructed this entire quiz around the idea of "Chimp's Challenge" would you? Oh, ok.

"King Kong" is perhaps the ultimate simian movie but where is the giant ape's home?
Skull Island. This is the King of the apes all right. All the giant beast wants is the love of a good woman. The original "King Kong" was made in 1933 starring Fay Wray as Ann Darrow, the girl who captures Kong's heart. Eternia is where He-Man lived (remember him?), Vulcan is where "Star Trek's" Spock cam from and Godzilla Island is where, erm, what was it? Oh yeah, Godzilla came from.

Which song contains the line "in the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey"?
"Loser" by Beck. I don't think any of his lyrics have ever made much sense. The song continues with "Butane in my veins and I'm out to cut the junkie / With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables / Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose". Hmmm, this could be a quiz all on its own!

English ventriloquist Keith Harris became well-known because of his green duck pal, Orville. What was Orville's monkey mate called?
Cuddles. They didn't get on very well actually, maybe it's because a giant green "duck" with chubby cheeks and a nappy was enough to freak anyone out. Incidentally, Keith Harris and Orville were on a UK Channel 5 reality show called "The Farm" in 2005, and against stiff competition from the likes of Ron Jeremy and Flavor Flav, they won! Thanks for playing my quiz, keep on monkeying.
