Operation Annie.

    The name of an underground radio station. Annie was an underground radio station operated by the US 12th Army Group during the last five months of the war in Europe. Many times it deceived the Germans into surrendering their positions.

Operation Z.
    Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack was planned by Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto for December 7, 1941.

Operation Flying Elephant.
    Japanese attempt to bomb US northwest forests with hydrogen filled balloons. The balloons were launched from Japan and carried across the Pacific. Nearly 10,000 were launched, but very few made it to the U.S.

Operation MI.
    Japanese attack on Midway. The Japanese planned the attack but were reluctant to implement it until the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in 1942.

Operation Roundup.
    General George Marshall's plan for the invasion of Europe. The plan was scrapped because of Field Marshall Erwin Rommel's success in North Africa.

Operation Sea Lion.
    Hitler's proposed invasion of England. Hitler lost interest while planning invasion of Russia.

Operation Bernhard.
    German S.S. plan to counterfeit British pound notes. Hitler's plan was to disrupt the British economy.

Operation Overlord.
    Allied invasion of Europe. The name Operation Overlord was coined by Winston Churchill.

Operation Land of Fire.
    German effort to smuggle gold and art to Argentina near the end of the war. Martin Bormann ordered the tranfers, beginning the latter part of 1943.

Operation Titanic.
    Code name of the phony parachute drops north of Normandy on D-Day. Dummies were used that were activated when they hit the ground, exploding a series of blank cartridges in order to confuse the Germans.
