Near Baska on Krk, 'Bascanska ploca' (Baska Tablet) from 1100 A.D. was discovered, written in glagolitic script. It is the first Croatian written document and describes the gift from King Zvonimir to the church of St Lucija. Glagolitic script was devised by Greek linguist Constantin (Cyrill) to translate a number of essential religious texts into Slavic. Later Croats adopted Latin while Serbs adopted cyrillic letters.
