    Younger brother. David Frederick Attenborough was born on the 8 May 1926, the son of Frederick and Mary Attenborough. His father was a school administrator. Richard Samuel Attenborough was born 29 August 1923. Frederick and Mary's other son, John, ran a chain of garages.

After studying natural sciences at Cambridge, David Attenborough had to do his national service. Which branch of the British military did he go into?
    Navy. David joined the Navy in 1947. After his two year service he went to work for a publishing company before joining the BBC in 1952.

She had supported me in everything I had done. Indeed, most of the things I had done were, in actuality, joint enterprises.
