    Fennel. Fennel adds humour to the story, balancing Fitz's sometimes somber view of life.

Fitz agrees to teach Dutiful the Skill and decides that Verity's son should be taught the magic where Fitz himself was taught by Verity; in the tower overlooking the sea. Fitz slips up in his servant's role by refering to the tower as 'Verity's Tower'. What is the offical name for the tower?
    Seawatch tower. The tower is really called the Seawatch tower. It is chosen for the Skill lessons as it is an obvious place that Dutiful would pick as a meditation area, and is also accessible by secret passages so Fitz can travel to and from the tower undetected.

'Lord Golden' takes much delight in dressing his servant in the latest Jamillian fashions. He attires Fitz in clothes that flatter his physique and make him stand out in a crowd, much to Fitz's chagrin. One particualar night Fitz compares their matching clothes to a vegetable. What vegetable?
    Turnip. Dressed in their stripes of purple and white, Fitz likens himself and the Fool to turnips.

Why does the Queen summon Fitz to her chambers at the beginning of the book?
    To share her pain at Nighteye's death. Although Fitz and Kettricken discuss both the prince's rescue and Lady Rosemary's continued presence in the keep, Kettricken summoned Fitz to tell him she felt Nighteyes dying. She wanted to empathise with his pain and tell him how highly regarded Nighteyes was in her heart.

On his return to his cottage, initially, who does Fitz think has ransacked his home?
    Forged people. At first the cottage looks like it has been attacked by forged folk. However, on seeing the pig's footprints, he concludes it was his 'friendly' neighbour who was the culprit.

What is the name of the tavern that Hap and Svanja frequent?
    The Stuck Pig. The Stuck Pig was a seedy tavern and was said to be visited by witted folk.

This book is peppered with fights and misunderstandings. How does Dutiful insult Elliana?
    He implies she is only a girl. During a game of Stones with Civil, Elliana approaches Dutiful and asks to share in the game. He tells her girls can't play the game. However, when Lady Vance asks them, they let her play, and, on her winning, Dutiful tells her a girl can't play the game but a beautiful woman can. Elliana hears the whole thing.

A contingent from Bingtown visits Buckeep during this book, including many familiar faces from 'The Liveship Trilogy'. One of the visitors is a friend of Lord Golden. What is her name?
    Jek. Jek is happy to see Fitz opening the door to "Amber's" room - assuming that Amber is finally with "her" love. This leads to a huge arguement between Fitz and the Fool.

What was the name of Laudwine's accomplice?
    Padget. Padget is wit bonded to a small terrier dog.

Fitz, once more, teeters on the brink of death when he develops an infection from a sword wound. The newly formed coterie use the Skill to heal Fitz. The sword cut was on the left side of his body.
    F. Laudwine's sword penetrates the muscles at the right side of Fitz's back and punctures his intestine.
