She married the Emperor of France on 11 April 1810 in Paris, France. After the death of Pjotr I, Catherine took over the throne with the support of the army. She died on 17 May 1727 in St Petersburg, Russia. Tsarina Catherine II the Great von Anhalt-Zerbest of Russia was born on 2 May 1729 in Szczecin, Poland, the daughter of Prince Christian Augustus von Anhalt-Zerbest of Anhalt and Princess Joanna Elizabeth von Holstein-Gottorp of Holstein. She married the Grand Duke Pjotr Karlovitch Romanov of Russia; the son of Duke Charles Frederick von Holstein-Gottorp and Grand Duchess Anna Petrovna Romanov of Russia and heir of Tsarina Elizabeth Petrovna Romanov of Russia; on 1 September 1745 in St Petersburg, Russia. After Elizabeth died on 5 January 1761 in St Petersburg, Russia, the Grand Duke became Tsar Pjtor III and was deposed after only six months. He was exiled and later murdered on 17 July 1762. His wife became Tsarina Catherine II the Great, ruling from 1762 to her death on 17 November 1796.
