What was the date of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre?

    Feb. 14, 1929. One of the most famous dates in U.S. history.

How many men were killed?
    7. The 7 that were killed were Frank and Peter Gusenberg, James Clark, Adam Heyer, Reinhardt Schwimmer Al Weinshank, and John May. The Gusenberg brothers were hired killers, Weinshank was a club owner, Clark was a killer and hitman, Heyer took care of the financial affairs, and May was a mechanic.

Who was the intended target?
    George "Bugs" Moran. Moran was the target, but interestingly enough, he got away. Moran would die much later in prison from lung cancer.

Where did the massacre take place?
    The S.M.C. Cartage Company. According to a show on the Discovery Channel, four men all together participated in the actual shooting. Two were dressed as policemen and two were dressed in regular civilian clothing.

It was snowing on the day of the massacre.
    t. The weather could not have been worse. A light snow was falling and the temperature was a frigid 18 degrees Farenheit.

The car the assassins were driving was a Cadillac.
    t. The car was an unmarked, black police Cadillac.

What was the address of the S.M.C. Cartage Company?
    2122 North Clark Street. The only landmark that marks the spot where the S.M.C. used to be is a fence and a large tree where the garage used to stand.

Who got his head blown off with a shotgun?
    John May. May was known to have always carried a case in his back pocket that held a Saint medal inside. During the massacre, it was hit by a bullet. This alone would have saved him, but the killers were too careful. They checked every body to make sure there were no survivors. They found May still breathing and finished him off with a shotgun blast, point blank.

What state was Al Capone hiding in during the massacre?
    Florida. Capone was staying in his summer home in Palm Island, Florida.

On what day of the week was the massacre?
    Thursday. Maybe the gangsters were all going to be busy on the weekend.

What did the press nickname Jack McGurn's girlfriend?
    The blonde alibi. McGurn was questioned, but never arrested. His girlfriend vouched for him and said that they had spent Valentine's Day together in bed until 1 o'clock that afternoon.

Who was the last man to die?
    Frank Gusenberg. Interesting enough, the killers missed Frank Gusenberg on their second inspection of the bodies. After finishing May off with the shotgun, they panicked and fled. Gusenberg lived 3 hours after the massacre but died at a local hospital. When asked who shot him he said, "Nobody shot me." Did he not know who did it, or was he just keeping to the gangster code?

In what city did the massacre take place?
    Chicago. Chicago was the most corrupt city in the United States during the 1920s and early 1930s. For a while, it was also the biggest city in the U.S.

Al Capone was convicted of the massacre and was jailed.
    f. Nobody was convicted of the murder. Capone remained a free man, until he was put in Alcatraz much later for income tax evasion.

The youngest man that died in the massacre was John May.
    f. John May was 39 years old when he died. Frank Gusenberg was 37, Peter Gusenberg was 40, Clark was 42, and Heyer was 40. Weinshank, the youngest, was 35. These guys had all hit middle age for gangsters.
