The key word in determining an omega level mutant is "potential" as in what are they capable of when pushed to the upper limit of their power.

Jean Grey/Phoenix here is one of the most widely accepted omega level mutants because her telekinesis and telepathy make her essentially unstoppable. There is nothing Jean Grey cannot do as seen during the various depictions of the phoenix saga.

Iceman is also considered an omega level mutant solely based on what he is capable of because he is nowhere close to achieving his full potential in the comics. Iceman can essentially manipulate/produce the three forms of water and that makes him one of the most powerful potential mutant in the comics.

Storm is a long debated omega level mutant. There has been a lot of disagreement among fans to debate whether she is omega level or not but it is undeniable that her control over so many forms of energy make her immensely powerful.

Professor X is widely accepted in the comics to be an alpha level mutant (one level below omega). This is because Professor X is indubitably the greatest telepath but his powers have limitations even at its upper limits.

Answer: Jean Grey/ Phoenix

It appears that the numbered classification system focuses more on the strength of the mutant at that time rather than the potential strength of the mutant. While Iceman is considered omega level and storm is considered almost omega level, both are nowhere close to that level of power based on their depiction in the movie trilogy.

Jean Grey however, is being possessed by the phoenix force and as the Dark Phoenix is more than capable of showing her unlimited potential at that time. Professor X was just added in there in case you are taking this quiz in the classic format and use the choices from this question as a hint to answer the earlier question. Professor X is considered alpha level in the comics and rightfully so a level 4 mutant in the movie.

Gambit is classified as an alpha level mutant because he does have minor flaws such as the time required to charge objects and his inability to maintain his power for long periods of time. Other alpha level mutants include the aforementioned Professor X, possibly Storm, Magneto and Psylocke. Each one suffers from a flaw such as stamina to maintain power in Professor X, definite limits to the telekinetic potential for Psylocke and Magneto's certain instances where he has burnt out his body due to excessive use of power (limitations). Storm is so highly debated because the comics have contradicted themselves in the past about her classification and her resolution that prevents fans/readers from deciding whether her ultimate potential is limitless.

While the movie does not explicitly state Pyro's classification, Callisto says that the only people in the anti-cure mutant meeting with a classification higher than class 3 was Magneto and Pyro. Later in the movie, Callisto says that Jean Gray is the only Class 5 mutant she can sense and therefore that puts Magneto and Pyro under Class 4.

Interestingly, Pyro and Magneto are considered alpha mutants in the Greek classification which essentially supports the theory that a class 5 mutant is equivalent to an omega level mutant and a class 4 mutant is equivalent to an alpha level mutant.

Answer: He cannot naturally turn his powers on/off.

Cyclops is considered a beta level mutant solely because his powers are out of his control and without a ruby quartz covering his eyes he cannot turn it on or off. All the other options are true but they really don't define the difference between an alpha and a beta level mutant. His powers are limited to the eyes but if that is powerful enough, it should not restrict him from being an alpha level.

After all, Xavier's powers are limited to his mind and he is considered one of the most powerful alpha level mutants. Cyclops cannot control the strength of the optic blast naturally but this is not the best reason why he is not classified as an alpha level mutant.

Lastly, the powers reaching a saturation point marks the difference between an omega level and an alpha level. All alpha level mutants have a saturation point to their powers and therefore cannot be classified as omega.

Answer: Mystique & Sabretooth

Mystique and Sabretooth gave birth to a child named Graydon Creed Jr. who is completely human. Human is essentially lowest in the classification and therefore supports the theory that the child of two beta level mutants (Sabretooth and Mystique) can result in a non-beta level offspring. Jean Gray and Cyclops gave birth to Nate Grey and Rachel Summers, both of whom are omega level mutants like their mother. Amelia Voght and Charles Xavier never bore a child. Scarlet Witch and Nightcrawler bore a child in alternate reality named Talia Wagner/Nocturne. Nocturne is a gamma level mutant (one step below beta) just like her father.

Answer: Wolverine

Rogue is considered a gamma level mutant because she is unable to have physical contact without inducing a coma to a human or absorbing the powers of a mutant. Blob is a gamma level mutant solely because he cannot control his size. Beast's brutish appearance is another example of a flaw that affects his day-to-day lives. Wolverine however, is a beta level mutant because while he has healing powers he cannot control the healing process.

I chose Wolverine as an option because a fair amount of people are under the impression that Wolverine's adamantium claws are part of his mutation. The claws as part of his mutation would put him under the gamma category but because they are synthetic it cannot be factored into his class determination.

Answer: Forge

Forge is basically a whiz with technology making him an ultimate inventor of new gadgets. While he can invent gadgets for various scenarios, his mutant power won't be particularly helpful if he is faced with an unpredictable situation. He can invent something to get out of his predicament but would require time and resources which may or may not be present. Colossus is an alpha level mutant because while he does not have unlimited strength, he has full control over his power and his powers don't hamper his day-to-day life in any particular way.

Furthermore, Colossus can convert into his steel form and face any scenario head-on making his powers non-specific. Dazzler is also an alpha level mutant because her ability to convert sound waves to light is applicable in almost any case that requires the use of her powers. Tar baby is actually an epsilon level mutant (one step below delta) because his powers are completely uncontrollable while a delta level mutant has control over their limited power.

Answer: Beak

Beak has a beak, talons and wings but his limited flight and heightened senses are next to useless when compared to other mutants in the "X-men" universe. Beak's appearance also prevent him from walking down the streets with humans without being recognized as a mutant. Domino, Callisto and Cypher all have very limited application powers and therefore are categorized as delta mutants.

Answer: Mole Man

Mole Man has poor vision and compensates for it by a heightened sense of hearing. Mole man however, is human and is a capable villain in the "X-men" comics because of his genius, martial arts and control over technology. All the other options are low level mutants (epsilon class) and therefore cannot be classified as zeta. An example of a zeta mutant with an abnormality is long neck who like his name suggests has a long neck.

Not much help that is going to do someone, other then helping them peep over the fence into the neighbors yard to eavesdrop on them.

Answer: Delta

The classification is as follows: Omega > Alpha > Beta > Gamma > Delta > Epsilon-Delta > Epsilon > Zeta > Humans. Epsilon-Delta mutants is something I did not mention in the quiz because it is a very very small group of mutants. These mutants can only use their power in certain circumstances like trauma or being possessed by another. If you look at the classification system with epsilon-delta in it, then a normal bell shaped curve will give you the answer (Delta being in the middle).

The easier way to answer this question though is to understand that majority of the mutants in the x-men universe have very specific application powers and require certain conditions for their powers to be a benefit to them.

Answer: Rogue

Some of you may have been surprised that Rogue is a gamma level mutant and not a beta or alpha level mutant. I mentioned that she is a gamma level mutant because her power hampers her day to day life by preventing physical contact. Rogue is an exception to this classification system in a way because she can absorb the powers of an omega level mutant and therefore act as an alpha level mutant for that period.

During the period in which her absorbed powers are still active, she will be unstoppable and have unlimited capabilities and the only way to really defeat her would be to wait till the powers become inactive. Other characters that are capable of being higher up in the classification are characters that use technology as a substitute.

Apocalypse is a classic example of an exception to this classification system because he appears to be far more powerful in the comics than his original mutant abilities dictated.

On the contrary, the Greek classification system applies to all characters in the marvel universe. Daredevil for example would be considered a zeta level mutant because of his heightened senses due to loss of sight. Franklin Richards (son of Sue and Reed Richards from Fantastic Four) is considered to be one of the strongest mutants in existence and is undeniably an omega level mutant.

Answer: mutates

Mutates like Sinister and Swamp Men are hard to classify because their powers keep changing over the course of the comics. This is especially true for sinister where he keeps getting powers from genetic experiments he conducts on other mutants. Other characters that fit this category include the Fantastic Four and Spiderman because they were not born with their powers.

Answer: No

Superman is probably the strongest character in both the Marvel and DC universe but his potential is not unlimited. To have an unlimited potential, Superman has to be able to kick butt in any scenario, no matter where in the universe. Superman's weakness to green kryptonite would be the first thing stopping him from being omega but mainly its the fact that Superman is powerless under the red sun. Any solar system that rotates around the red sun would make superman essentially human and therefore he is ineligible to be considered an omega level mutant.
