Let's look around. I like this library. Wonder what great books they have today. Oh, yeah, I remember this one. "Animal Farm." It was about farm animals who kick out the owners and take over the farm. Yeah, and there was a pig in it who was like a dictator or something. The pigs weren't very nice, and he was the meanest. Hmmmm. Let's see now. What was his name?
Yeah, I read "Animal Farm" in high school. Let's see what's on this shelf. "Popular Tunes of the Fifties." Hmm. I remember some of those. There was a song by Lonnie Donegan called "The Rock Island Line." I think it was about a freight train engineer who tries to beat a toll by lying about what he has on board. Now what did he really have? Hmmm.
What is pig iron anyway? I've heard about for years but I still don't know exactly what it is.
iron that's just come out of the blast furnace
poorly made iron construction material
iron used to make New Orleans balcony railings
iron used to build pig enclosures
Hmmm. I seem to have pigs on the brain today. I remember being in the midwest of the US and I was passing a farm and I saw something moving across the land pretty far away that I would have sworn was a truck, but the people I was with told me it was a pig! They also told me pigs grow mighty big in their state and that their state was the leader in US pig production. Which state was I in?
none of these
That also reminded me of a football team I saw on TV that was named after a type of pig, but I can't recall what state they were from. Do you know what university's sports mascot is a wild pig of the southeastern US?
University of Georgia
University of Arkansas
Florida State University
University of Alabama
Yeah, it's funny the kind of names people think up for things. Like there was this TV show once about this teacher and his class. They were like the worst kids in the school all stuck together in one room, and they made up some funny name for themselves. I think it . . . oh, yeah, the Sweathogs! But I can't remember what show it was. Can you help me?
Welcome Back, Kotter
It's funny how pigs can pop up in the strangest places. Maybe one will fly through the window of this library. Yeah, pigs are really popular. Like this song I remember hearing that goes like "Everywhere there's lots of piggies living piggy lives./You can see them out to dinner with their piggy wives/Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon." I have no idea who wrote it though. Do you?
all of these
Pigs! Gosh, you don't realize until you think about it how often pigs show up in our lives! Like another book I read in high school. It was about these kids on an island and they were hunting pigs and there was even a guy named Piggy. As usual, I can't remember the title. Can you?
Yeah, I used to read a lot of books, even when I was a kid. But not that many pigs showed up. Wait! I remember one now. He lived in the woods I think, and he had friends like Owl, Rabbit and Edward Bear. Oh, what WAS his name? What WAS it? I hate it when I can't remember.
I used to go to the movies when I was a kid too. Sometimes they showed cartoons, like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig. Bugs and Daffy weren't like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. They didn't have girlfriends, but Porky did. Yeah, and here we go again. I can't remember her name for sure, but I think it was one of these:
Talking about cartoons made me think of Disney. Let's see if they have a book about him in the entertainment section here. Ah, here's a nice one about his early career. I see he did a lot of short films, like "The Three Little Pigs," and it was part of a series called:
There was this TV show a while back too that seemed like it was for kids because it had puppets but it was more for grown-ups, I think. It had Kermit, Gonzo, and Miss Piggy and a little show they did that was like part of their show. It was science fiction about pigs! And it was called "Pigs in _____".
(One word; 5 letters)
Let's have a look in this section. Wow! Look at that. Another book I read in high school. "The Pigman." It was about these two teens and a man they met they called the Pigman, but that wasn't really his name. It was something like that though. Can you help me on this?
Now that I think of it, there was another pig man, on "Seinfeld." They go to visit somebody in the hospital. I can't remember who. And one of them sees what they think is a man who's being turned into a pig in some secret government experiment. But I can't remember which one it was.
When I was a kid my friends used to talk in this crazy language that used real words but they changed them in some way. They said it was like a code and they taught me how to do it too. They called it Pig Latin. I can't recall exactly how it went. Maybe you can help me. Like, for example, how would you say "Pig Latin" in Pig Latin?
