Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As you and the guests arrive, the butler greets you. As you wait for dinner, you play some pool with Mr. Green. You sink the four ball into the corner pocket when dinner is served. Tonight is eggplant parmesan, and you sit down to eat. The wait for the elusive Mr. Boddy has really taken its toll on the others. Which of the following rooms were you LEAST likely to have been through?

Answer: conservatory

CLUE: Although this clue may seem too good to be true, you did not enter this room. That gives the murderer a place to kill their victim without you being there.

CLUE: The dinner is eggplant parmesan; eggplant is coincidentally purple. Also, the pool ball that you sunk is the purple ball.

You went through the hall as you came in. You were in the billiard room when you were playing pool. You were in the dining room when you ate dinner. The conservatory is where plants are kept.
2. After hearing a loud scream, you and the guests run to the study where you find Mr. Boddy's dead body. There is a large bust of Plato broken on the floor, leading you and the guests to believe that it was the murder weapon. Upon further inspection, you see that Mr. Boddy stumbled into the room, knocked over the bust, and fell to the floor. It was obvious that he was killed with a blunt object. Which of the following would least likely be the murder weapon?

Answer: rope

CLUE: This is another obvious clue. The weapon is blunt, leaving you with about three or four options.

CLUE: The bust was of the famous philosopher and teacher, Plato. His experience and education can lead you to your own suspicions.

The rope obviously was not able to kill Mr. Boddy with a strike to the head.
3. "Please help, doctor," Professor Plum says to you. "Poor, helpless darling," Mrs. Peacock offers. "Petty, horrible demon," Mr. Green adds. As you and Mrs. White try and move the body to the couch, you realize the killer could be anyone in this room. The body is stiff and hard to move. What is the name for this stiffening?

Answer: rigor mortis

CLUE: If you look at the first letter of each of the words spoken in the dialogue, you will see they spell out PhD. Also, some professionals are known as "stiffs".

Rigor mortis is the stiffening or tensing of the muscle after death. It's really difficult to move someone while they are in this condition, but they won't mind much because they're dead.
4. "We're all going to die!" screams Miss Scarlet. "Don't be silly," you reply. "Don't preach to me, Dr. Obsidian. I think you're all nuts," Miss Scarlet shouts as she bolts from the room. What type of behavior did she just exhibit?

Answer: erratic

CLUE: In the third sentence you find the words 'nuts' and 'bolts'. That may lead you to the murder weapon.

CLUE: To preach is to profess your beliefs (that one was REALLY subtle). Also, many consider the behavior of professors to be erratic at times (also really subtle).
5. "Oh, great," someone says after Miss Scarlet ran out of the room. "We all need to be together," you warn, "or else someone might get hurt." You all run to the library where you find Miss Scarlet hiding in a corner. You see a biography in Miss Scarlet's hands titled "Christopher Lloyd: A Legend". What type of book is the biography?

Answer: non-fiction

CLUE: Christopher Lloyd was none other than Professor Plum in the movie "Clue". That was a big clue, hope you're happy.
6. You all gather together and go to the lounge to come up with ideas of what to do next. You suggest that you call the police, but that idea gets some stern looks. "You people are being a pain in the neck," you say, "we've got to do something." "We're going to cover it up," says Mrs. White, "I'm not going down for something I didn't do." Everyone else seems hesitant, but you all seem to agree and don't voice objections. With everyone else there, you wouldn't want to be the one who opposes the idea. What is this type of behavior known as?

Answer: groupthink

CLUE: A pain in the neck is often referred to as a wrenched neck. That would help lead you to the wrench.

Groupthink is when individuals don't voice their opinions about an idea because they fear that everyone else agrees with the idea. Often, when the idea is bad, most people will agree out in the open, although they disagree on the inside. Many times, more people will disagree but never know that others think the same as they do.
7. After a couple hours of bickering in the lounge, a knock comes at the door. You open the door to a police officer, who walks in without pause. "I'm Detective Jack Horner, I got a call that there was a murder here." "Yes, officer, right this way," you say. The officer looks over the area and hangs his head. "Well, this person should go to prison for a long time. I hope they get first degree murder," he offers. Typically in U.S. law, what would the prosecutor have to prove to get a conviction for a first degree murder?

Answer: premeditation

CLUE: The detective's name was Jack Horner, who was a character in a common nursery rhyme. He just happened to pull a plum out of his pie.

CLUE: The term 'first degree murder' just so happens to have the word 'degree' in it, which is something you would receive from a
university.

First degree murder is typically murder through premeditation or planned ahead of time. Although the definition varies from state to state, premeditation is the primary way in which a prosecutor can get a conviction for first degree murder. It is possible that a prosecutor can get a first degree murder charge when the charged used a weapon to kill, but this would normally happen if the charged was in the process of committing a crime. Using a weapon itself would not lead to a first degree murder charge.
8. As Colonel Mustard looks at the crescent moon, he starts to get more heated. He bursts, "Why did that stupid cop have to get involved? I'm going to pull the arms out of the sockets of the monkey who did this! I'm going to be the person who fixes that leaky faucet!" What does Colonel Mustard's 'leaky faucet' refer to?

Answer: the person who called the detective

CLUE: The words 'crescent', 'monkey', and 'socket' all appear in the first paragraph, which all describe a certain type of "Clue" weapon. Also, you fix a faucet with, yes, a wrench.

CLUE: Another subtle clue; the person who would normally fix a leaky faucet would be a plumber. That word is suspiciously close to a certain person's name.
9. The detective has now resorted to digging through trash bins. He comes to some recycle bins in the kitchen. He dumps out all the contents and finds normal recycleables, except for a certain suspicious item. Which of these objects that the detective found would LEAST be likely to be accepted by recycling centers?

Answer: ceramic plant pot

CLUE: Although subtle, to conserve is to recycle, which would lead you to the Conservatory. More obvious is the ceramic plant pot which came from the conservatory sitting in the recycle bin.

Ceramic is not easily recycled, and wouldn't be accepted in the majority of recycling centers because of the impracticality of its ability to be recycled.
10. "I have figured out who the killer is," you say. "Who is it?" asks Detective Horner. "Isn't it obvious?" you reply. So... whodunit? (_______ in the _______ with the ________.)

Answer: Plum conservatory wrench

So there you have it. Professor Plum in the conservatory with the wrench. Hopefully with the clues that I have left you, you were able to figure it out. Dr. Obsidian reports the results and Professor Plum goes... well I guess the game starts over!
