3. This Eastern Orthodox church was built in the 4th century, during the rule of Constantine. Today, it is used as a concert hall because of its great acoustic characteristics.

4. Located at the tip of the historical peninsula by the Golden Horn, this palace covers an area of approximately 700 m2. It was built between 1459-1465.

5. This building was built in 341 BC on a rock near the entrance of the Bosphorus from the Marmara Sea. It was first used to control the movements of the foreign ships in the Bosphorus. However it is mostly famous for the legend of the maiden who was imprisoned there by her father so that she could be protected from an oracle's prophecy (that she would be bitten by a snake).

6. One of my favourite historical places in Istanbul is a cistern. Justinian the First built this cistern to provide water for the palaces nearby. The water came from Belgrade Forest 19 km north with the help of aqueducts. It has 336 marble columns, each 9 m high.

7. If you would like to eat fish and the accompanying "meze" (savory food eaten while drinking), this is one of the best places to go. It is on Istiklal Avenue, one of the longest and oldest avenues in Istanbul. It was designed by a "Rum" (Istanbul Greek) Cleanthy Zanno in 1870.

8. The largest of the Princes' Islands in Marmara Sea is a wonderful place if you would like to take some time off and relax. No motorized vehicles are allowed so if you want to see the whole island either walk, travel in a "fayton" (a horse carriage), ride a bike or maybe even a donkey!

9. How about some art? By the Bosphorus, this art museum has a wonderful view of Sarayburnu (the Seraglio Point). It was opened in 2004.

10. So after a long day of sightseeing, maybe you would like to have a taste of the famous nonstop Istanbul nights! This is the district to go if you want to do some bar-hopping since there are hundreds of places with different music, food and drinks. Rock bars, discos, cafes, restaurants, clubs are abundant here. The famous Istiklal Avenue stretches from Taksim Square to Tünel in this district.
