Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first word in this quiz is the name of the daughter of Priam and Hecuba, the king and queen of Troy.

Answer: Cassandra

Cassandra was one of the daughters of Queen Hecuba and her husband King Priam, who was the ruler of Troy during the Trojan War. According to the most popular version, Cassandra was admired for her beauty and intelligence by Apollo, one of the Olympian deities in Greek and Roman mythology. To demonstrate his love, Apollo gave Cassandra the gift of seeing the future, and in return, she promised him favors. Upon receiving the gift Cassandra refused Apollo's advances. Unable to revoke the divine power, Apollo added to it the curse that nobody would believe her prophecies. So Cassandra continued with her ability to see the future but without the ability to change events or convince others about the validity of her predictions.

Today, Cassandra's metaphor is related to someone who warns about an imminent disaster or something that is going to happen but no one is convinced of the validity of the predictions.

She was interested in exotic creatures from an early age and was impressed by the adventures of Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey, published by National Geographic. She studied Psychology, Zoology, and Anthropology. She convinced paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey to obtain funds to establish a research facility in Borneo to study orangutans in their natural habitats. In 1971, at age 25, she arrived in Indonesian Borneo. The research "Camp Leakey" was subsequently established near the edge of the Java Sea, for Galdikas to conduct her field research with orangutans. For more than four decades she has been developing a very important and fundamental tool for the survival of orangutans and she is recognized as a leading authority on orangutans.
