Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. S + Part of a bird = Sway

Answer: Swing

S + WING = SWING

The word swing has many different meanings, but the meaning implied by the picture suggests an activity that all kids love - using a seat attached to a chain or rope that can swing, or sway, back and forth! You may be able to soar so high that it feels like you have wings!

Swinging is a great activity as it helps with the development of both muscles and balance. In addition, since most swings are located outdoors, some fresh air is always welcome. And - it's even a good activity for adults, as it has been shown to relieve stress.
2. S + Center = Tally

Answer: Score

S + CORE = SCORE

It's really fun to go watch a favorite sports team, but to stay on top of the game, make sure you know how to locate the scoreboard in order to see who is winning! A scoreboard in baseball usually shows shows a count or tally of the runs that are made for each inning played, as well as the final total score, just like the one in the picture! If you're really lucky, you may see your team make or score some runs - and - if they are really good, they may score a score of twenty!
3. H + Above = Float

Answer: Hover

H + OVER = HOVER

Do you like to watch bees? I do! Many times they hover over plants - but why? Scientists say that they are using their senses of sight and smell to decide if the plant is good for foraging. What if the bee is hovering above you? Move away very slowly.
4. E + Combine = Appear

Answer: Emerge

E + MERGE = EMERGE

The picture shows a butterfly emerge from its cocoon. This is the final stage of its life cycle, in which it changes from an egg to a larva (caterpillar) to a pupa (chrysalis), and finally an adult. How long does it take before the adult will emerge? It varies between species, but a monarch butterfly will emerge after 10-14 days in most cases.
5. P + Biblical Boat = Place

Answer: Park

P + ARK = PARK

Did you know that people have been setting aside land for parks for centuries? At first parks were used as game reserves so the wealthy would have a place to hunt, but after the Industrial Revolution people who lived in towns and cities found that it was nice to set aside green spaces for recreation, exercise, and enjoying nature.
6. C + wage = Box

Answer: Crate

C + RATE = CRATE

There are all kinds of different types of crates, made with a variety of materials. What kind of hourly rate or wage do you think the people in the picture earned as they made their open crates? Open crates are handy for the storage and the transport of farm produce. Manufacturers realized that placing large items - like bicycles, for example - into structurally reinforced frame crates provided protection from damage during shipping. Closed crates that look like boxes are also used.
7. T + Tear = Outing

Answer: Trip

T + RIP = TRIP

There are lots of words that are synonyms of the word trip when it is used as a noun. The words excursion, expedition, voyage, travel, and journey readily come to mind. The word outing is typically used for a shorter day trip that is taken for fun and pleasure.
8. C + Branch = Scale

Answer: Climb

C + LIMB = CLIMB

Why on earth do people climb trees? Well, it is fun! But more than that, climbing trees improves balance and coordination. A successful climb can improve one's self-esteem and confidence. It may also help with problem-solving skills, as some forward thinking needs to take place if a person wants to reach the top and find the safest way down.

Having said that, it can be quite dangerous and risky. And the tree in the picture doesn't have any branches or limbs for support! So - if this is your exercise of choice - please be careful!
9. D + Uncooked = Sketch

Answer: Draw

D + RAW = DRAW

The famous Renaissance artist, Leonardo da Vinci, kept notebooks with thousands of pages of ideas and illustrations. He would draw or sketch preparatory designs for inventions, as well as figures that he wanted to use in his paintings.

One of the subjects that held his interest was flying, and he produced at least 500 pictures of birds, wind currents, and flying machines. He would draw pictures of birds in flight and record his studies of bird wings, thinking that if birds could fly, perhaps humans could too.
10. B + Weak = Accuse

Answer: Blame

B + LAME = BLAME

You may remember from the story in The Bible, that after Adam took a bite of the forbidden fruit, he went to God and told him. Not only did he say he took a bite, but, in Genesis 3:12, he also gives a rather weak or lame excuse. He blames both Eve and God himself because Eve gave him the fruit and God created Eve. In the following verse, of course, Eve blames the snake.

If you study the picture closely, it doesn't look like God is buying it. He methodically doles out punishments to all involved. By the end of Chapter 3, Adam and Eve have received the ultimate discipline. They have been cast out of the Garden of Eden.
