The Easybeats became the first Australian international rockstars. The band had fifteen top 40 hits. "Friday on My Mind", released in 1966, reached number sixteen on the US Billboard Hot 100 in May 1967. The song reached number one on the Dutch Top 40 chart, number one in Australia and number six hit in the UK.

In 2001, the song was voted "Best Australian Song" of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA).
