Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode opened to Wesley holding a black and white photo of what?

Answer: the Hyperion Hotel

Angel commented that it had 68 rooms and 68 vacancies, and agreed with Wes' assessment that it was probably built sometime close to the 1920s. Angel went on to say that it was located in what used to be known as the "heart of Hollywood", but at this point had no recollection of his own time there. The gang was still using Cordy's "room with a view" as their base of operations.
2. A very nervous bellman had to deliver a bill to Angel back in the day. Was he able to deliver the bill and escape back into the elevator before Angel opened the door to room 217?

Answer: Yes

Bellman Frank loathed this task and remarked that Angel's eyes seemed void. This was all said before viewers discovered Angel to be the inhabitant of room 217. J.P. Manoux played Frank the bellman.
3. How did Cordy discover that Angel had stayed at the hotel in 1952?

Answer: an old photograph

Cordy to Wes: "It's not that vampires don't photograph, it's just that they don't photograph WELL." When she wondered why Angel didn't just tell them about his connection, Wes surmised that maybe Angel was ashamed. Or maybe, guys, he just didn't remember? Nah, he has a photographic memory. Angel looked pretty good in 1952, though obviously detached from humanity. Since we know he was sucking rat juice in the gutters of New York in 1996*, the events from this time must have just been one more thing that drove him there.
*-"BTVS" season two, episode "Becoming".
4. The Thesulac demon encouraged the candle salesman in 215 to kill himself as he listened to "Hoop Dee Doo Polka" on a record player. By what method did end his own life?

Answer: gunshot

"Hoop dee doo, Hoop-dee-doo, I hear a polka and my troubles are through.." How entirely creepy was that scene? Cheery old time music played as something ancient whispered the poor man to his own end. David Kagan played the salesman, and first seen victim of the Thesulac in 1952. The hotel manager and Frank the bellman walked into the man's room and the manager stated that this suicide was the "third in as many months".

It was not clear, though, that the salesman was the demon's third victim, or just the hotel's third suicide in three months.

The manger decided to store the body in the meatlocker, also thanks to the demon's whispers.
5. When Judy (in 1952) thanked Angel for his help, did he say "you're welcome"?

Answer: No

They were at an observatory and Angel simply replied "you're gonna miss the end of the world." Judy walked hesitantly away, but later drew him into her room back the hotel. She was falling victim to the demon's paranoia and worried that her secret would be discovered.
6. Judy had some secrets. Which of these was NOT one of the secrets.

Answer: she'd killed her parents

The man who'd hassled her was working for the bank she'd stolen money from. She'd stolen the money out of anger, when she realized that she was about to be fired because she was bi-racial. She'd been passing for white all of her life, but somehow the truth kept coming out. Younger Judy was played by actress Melissa Marsala. Fans may remember her as Vanessa's sister Angelica on HBO's "Six Feet Under". Angel could certainly relate to "passing".

He could also relate to feeling like nothing because he wasn't one thing or the other, like Judy, at least not entirely.

She wasn't black or white and he wasn't human or whole heartedly vampire.
7. Angel found a bag of money inside the hotel.

Answer: True

As Angel remembered his conversations with Judy, he recalled where the money had been hidden in 1952. He smiled when he opened the bag and found all that money.
8. When Angel met Denver at his book store, what did Denver do that proved Angel was a vampire?

Answer: handed him a "Holy Bible" and watched it burn his skin

Denver tossed Angel the "Holy Bible" and Angel's hand immediately started smoldering. Not having time for nonsense, Angel vamped out and told Denver to knock off the Van Helsing Jr stuff and take him to the books in the back. Denver ended up helping Angel out in 1952, but due to a serious lynching situation the exorcism never occurred.
9. Who did NOT help Angel exorcise the Thesulac from the Hyperion?

Answer: Giles

They had an orb and book. Wes read the incantation and held up the orb, and the demon came forth. Flashback to the 50s and Judy was forced to sell out Angel to save herself from an angry mob. She paid dearly for this betrayal, as Angel left the hotel and allowed the demon to take everyone inside it. Judy lived for years and years there, a victim of her own guilt and paranoia. Giles never made an appearance on the series in its five seasons.
10. After the vanquish, Angel hurried up to room 214 to find Judy there. After they chatted, what happened to Judy?

Answer: she died

Tony Amendola played the role of the Thesulac, vanquished from the hotel for good in 2000. Judy was happy to see Angel alive and apologized for her role in his "death". He assured her that it hadn't been her fault, and she could leave now. She wanted to, but she was just too tired.

She died in her room with Angel by her side. He came downstairs and announced they were moving in, and that it was no longer a house of evil. The gang remained in the Hyperion until the end of season four, where they accepted roles that led them all down an entirely different path. Eve Sigall played the role of older Judy.
