Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ken Burns created a documentary miniseries called "The Civil War" that first aired in 1990. Which civil war was it about?

Answer: American Civil War

"The Civil War" is a nine-part documentary series about the American Civil War. It was the most watched PBS program ever and averaged about fourteen million viewers per episode. It was also groundbreaking for the way that it was filmed, using panning and zooming in a particular fashion.

This is known as the 'Ken Burns effect.' The series was narrated by David McCullough and starred Sam Waterston, Morgan Freeman, Jason Robards, Julie Harris and Garrison Keillor. It won many awards and was highly regarded and watched but was criticized for not being completely historically accurate. One criticism of the documentary was the lack of focus of the issue of slavery as a reason for the civil war.

Panned by critics and adults, this show was hilarious to children. My friends and I laughed until we cried when the "mother" spanked "son" with her doors. Too bad "children's shows" hadn't been developed yet, this might have been a big hit.
