Alf is often playing his accordion and singing folk songs. In season 1, he pawns his beloved instrument to help his mother pay off debts. Don't worry, he gets it back.

3. What is the relationship between Sir Timothy Midwinter, the local squire, and Dorcas Lane?

Answer: They have always been in love

Sir Timothy and Dorcas have known each other since they were young. Theirs is a frustrated love affair that can never be. Timothy is married to the aristocratic and cold Lady Adelaide, and Dorcas's father always told her that love cannot bridge the divide between the classes. Lady Adelaide is very jealous of her husband's affection for Dorcas.

At the end of series 1, they move to London.

Their father turns up in their life again in series 1 to try and con money from them. Pearl is a somewhat haughty spinster who is distrustful of men while Ruby is a romantic longing for love.

Her father and grandfather both served as postmaster of Candleford. When her father died, the post office and forge were left to her, his only child.

Everyone assumes they have, but they "never got around to it" for various reasons. After 40+ years of living together, Thomas Turrell and Victoria Warrener finally do get legally hitched.
