Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The race started in what provincial capital?

Answer: Winnipeg

Ten teams united in the snowy weather where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet at The Forks National Historic Site in Winnipeg, Manitoba and it was there that they commenced a race around Canada in "The Amazing Race Canada 9". Before departing from the Esplanade Riel, Jon informed the racers of a new addition-- the Assist, sponsored by Desjardins. Every team could use the Assist once during the race on designated challenges to help them out; when they used it would be up to them.

With a 'go', the teams raced across the Red River to their bags and opened their first clues sending them to the Qaumajuq Visible Vault, the exhibit at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. There, taking a name at random, teams had to search through more than five thousand pieces of Inuit art across three stories for a sculpture matching their provided title. If they could match it using the digital locator they could get the artist's name and trade it for their next clue.
2. The first Road Block of the race was held in what Alberta city?

Answer: Calgary

If teams could locate their hiding Inuit sculptures they could collect their clue and take a cab to the FastAir Jet Centre. From there they would need to sign up on one of two charter flights that would take them to Calgary, Alberta, landing the groupings there fifteen minutes apart. Upon landing they could open up their next clue at the arrival terminal.

With that, teams headed into Downtown Calgary with their Road Block, selecting one person who had 'Book Smarts'. For this task, the selected participant had to go to the top of the Calgary Central Library and face-first rappel down the side of the structure, looking for three key words on yellow race flags on their way. If they could relay the code words-- Betty Lou's Library-- they could get their next clue.

Kat, Gisele, Derek, Shayla, Allie, Amanda, Lily, Ben, Tyler, and Justin completed this task.
3. In Leg 1, teams had the chance to collect three Express Passes. Which team located them first?

Answer: Ty and Kat

Landing in Calgary, teams received a clue specifying the Express Passes and if they so chose they could head out to try for three of them before or after completing the Road Block. For this additional challenge, racers had to head into the Calgary Central Library to find the 'Calgary's Story' collection. Once there they needed to search through a specific section of books to find one with a race flag on the outside spine; this book would contain three Express Passes and they could claim one for themselves and hand off the other two. Ty and Kat managed to find the book first, taking all three.
4. The 'Batter' Detour in Leg 1 had teams making which of these?

Answer: Pancakes

When teams finished their Road Block they could take a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to the Devenish Building and locate Betty Lou's Library. Inside they used a secret code to enter a hidden speakeasy and, inside, they could take a photo of their Detour clue waiting inside. They had to move fast as these would be limited station Detours.

In 'Batter', teams made their way to Stephen Avenue to take breakfast-for-dinner orders. Once they received orders from two tables of three diners each they could make the pancake dishes that were requested and serve them to receive their next clue. The catch is that the diners would change seats midway through service, complicating the process. Ty and Kat, Allie and Eddie, Gracie and Lily, Gail and Gisele, Deven and Amanda, and Jermaine and Justin completed this task.

In 'Beat', teams could head instead to Olympic Plaza to learn a drum routine and join a drum circle. If they could stay in sync with their partner they could receive their next clue. Shayla and Joel, Ben and Anwar, Derek and Jaspal, and Tyler and Kayleen chose to finish this challenge.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in tenth place, checking into the Pit Stop last in Alberta?

Answer: Gail and Gisele

After teams finished their Detours, teams could hop into a cab and make their way to their very first Pit Stop for the race at the edge of the Peace Bridge on the Bow River. If they could find Jon there they could get their placement and, hopefully, stay in the race. Ty and Kat were first to arrive, managing to stay ahead of the pack since the library tasks and claiming a trip for two to Berlin, Germany courtesy of Expedia.
6. At the start of Leg 2, teams flew to what northern British Columbia town?

Answer: Smithers

Leaving early from Downtown Calgary, Alberta at the start of Leg 2, teams ripped open their clues and followed instructions that would take them to the airport for one of two flights to the small town of Smithers, British Columbia. Four teams would make it on the first flight and five teams would depart fifteen minutes later. Upon landing they would find a clue in a marked vehicle in the airport parking lot.

They could drive to the Frontier Experience Lodge for their next task.
7. Teams who did not utilize the Assist had to collect how many fake fish from the Bulkley River?

Answer: Ten

Driving to the Frontier Experience Lodge, teams needed to suit up and go swimming in the frigid Bulkley River. Throughout the river, attached to fenced checkpoints, they could locate ten different types of artificial fish anchored just below the water's surface. If they could collect those ten different species-- one of each-- then they could trade them for their next clue. Teams could also, if they elected to, use their Assist to cut that number in half. None of them did.

After this task, teams were told to tune their car radios to 93.9 CICK FM, Smithers' Community Radio station, which would direct them to their next destination, the Bulkley Valley Museum. Once there, teams had to play 'Who's Your Partner?', a game in which they met with Jon and were asked five questions about their teammate and had to answer them on a Samsung smartphone. Matching three of the five answers would allow them to get their next clue.
8. In Leg 2, team members completing the Road Block had to try to sell which of these?

Answer: Cars

For their Road Block task in Smithers, teams had to drive themselves to Coast Mountain GM and determine 'who likes that new car smell?' For this challenge, the selected team member would need to learn about the new 2024 Chevrolet Trax 2RS, memorizing twenty special features of the vehicle and then performing a presentation in front of a prospective new buyer. If they could give the perfect walkthrough, they could get their next clue. Jaspal, Ty, Gracie, Anwar, Jermaine, Joel, Kayleen, Deven, and Eddie completed this task.
9. The 'Fold' Detour task in Leg 2 involved delivering which of these?

Answer: Eggs

Finishing their Road Block, teams had to make their way to their Detour in Smithers, and for that they could either pursue 'Stuff' or 'Fold'.

In 'Stuff', teams made sausages at The Sausage Factory, casing a dozen for approval and then hopping aboard the horse-drawn carriages outside to deliver them to Smithers Brewing Co. In 'Fold', teams made their way to Nature's Pantry where they had to precisely cut and fold an egg carton based on inventor Joseph Coyle's original design. When completed, they would have to fill it with eggs and deliver it, by carriage, to the Two Sisters Cafe. If they arrived unbroken they would get their next clue.

'Stuff' was completed by Ty and Kat, Tyler and Kayleen, Ben and Anwar, Jermaine and Justin, and Allie and Eddie while 'Fold' was done by Gracie and Lily, Derek and Jaspal, Shayla and Joel, and Deven and Amanda.
10. Which team was eliminated upon checking in at Jollymore Ranch in Leg 2?

Answer: Allie and Eddie

Wrapping up the second leg of the race, teams needed to drive themselves outside of Smithers village and to the Jollymore Ranch where, if they could find the marked log cabin on the property, they could locate the second Pit Stop mat. Ty and Kat maintained their lead, navigating to another first place victory and claiming a trip for two to Lisbon, Portugal courtesy of Expedia. With the Road Block tripping up the back couple of teams, Deven and Amanda eked out eighth place while Allie and Eddie, unable to pull out of last place, were eliminated
