Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts

Answer: Easiest Tier

The first song in the first "Guitar Hero" title, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" offered an easy-going introduction to the series to help players get to grips with the gameplay mechanics, with a simple riff, lots of spacing between notes and an uncomplicated solo.

The "Guitar Hero" version of "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is a cover of the song, which is itself a cover of a 1975 song released by British rock band Arrows.
2. "Surrender" by Cheap Trick

Answer: Easiest Tier

"Surrender" by Cheap Trick is the first song in the first tier of the Xbox 360 version of "Guitar Hero 2". It is also featured in the first tier of the PS2 version of the game.

The song is a good example to highlight the increase in difficulty from the first title to the second, with a higher BPM and more complicated chord progressions. For comparison, on expert difficulty, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" contained 308 notes, "Surrender" consists of 834 notes.
3. "(Bang Your Head) Metal Health" by Quiet Riot

Answer: Easiest Tier

This one may have confused the non-"Guitar Hero" players as the first song on spin-off "Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s", a cover of "(Bang Your Head) Metal Health", omits the first guitar solo from the song entirely and replaces it with a much more straightforward rhythm guitar section. This is intriguing as another cover of the song was included in the retail demo for "Guitar Hero 2" and contains the guitar solo that was omitted. Looking at the difficulty of that solo, the song would've been in a much higher tier had it been included.

The song is still one of the hardest, if not the hardest, opening song on a "Guitar Hero" game due to the complicated solo in its outro.
4. "Slow Ride" by Foghat

Answer: Easiest Tier

Another opening song in a "Guitar Hero" game, another cover. As the lyrics say you can "take it easy" playing this one as it contains just 551 notes on Expert difficulty and lacks any real complicated sections, although it does throw up a few chords where you have to hold down three notes at once, a concept introduced in "Guitar Hero 2".
5. "Dream Police" by Cheap Trick

Answer: Easiest Tier

The first song on "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith", "Dream Police" is an easy-going start to a game that never really gets much harder, the game was criticised for its lack of difficulty compared to its predecessor. Twenty-nine of the forty-one songs included on the game were from Aerosmith, with the other twelve including "Dream Police" coming from bands or artists they were either inspired by or played with.
6. "Bark at the Moon" by Ozzy Osbourne

Answer: Hardest Tier

Given the difficulty of executing hammer-ons and pull-offs in the first game, "Bark At The Moon" will have to go down as one of the hardest songs in "Guitar Hero" history to 100% on Expert difficulty. This cover of one of Ozzy's signature hits, the final song on the sixth tier of "Guitar Hero", contains a non-stop barrage of notes (1189 to be exact) in just over four minutes.

The real Ozzy Osbourne recording would be used in "Guitar Hero Smash Hits" released in 2009.
7. "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Answer: Hardest Tier

The longest song on "Guitar Hero 2", a cover of "Free Bird" delivers an epic finale as the encore song for Tier 8, with your guitarist of choice beamed up by a UFO at the end of it. The song contains multiple difficult solo sections across its 9:18 runtime and is comprised of 1982 notes on Expert difficulty. Lynyrd Skynyrd's version was used in "Guitar Hero Smash Hits" released in 2009.
8. "Play With Me" by Extreme

Answer: Hardest Tier

A cover of "Play With Me" by Extreme is the encore song for the sixth and final tier of "Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s". The song contains lengthy solo sections and 1139 notes on Expert difficulty. The song was later re-used on "Guitar Hero Smash Hits" in 2009, this time the original version by Extreme and this specific chart goes down as my personal favourite song to play on any "Guitar Hero" title.
9. "One" by Metallica

Answer: Hardest Tier

While "Through the Fire and Flames" by Dragonforce is undoubtedly the hardest song on "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock" and closes out the games' career mode, it is officially listed as a bonus track, so the final song on the eighth and final tier, "One" by Metallica, is included in this quiz.

The song contains 2207 notes on Expert difficulty courtesy of the signature fast strumming sections of James Hetfield and a ridiculously fast solo, consisting of ascending triplets that clock in at 22.5 notes per second! It would later be re-used in "Guitar Hero: Metallica".
10. "Train Kept A-Rollin'" by Aerosmith

Answer: Hardest Tier

One of the few genuine challenges on "Guitar Hero: Aerosmith", "Train Kept A-Rollin'" is an Aerosmith classic consisting of 1400 notes on Expert difficulty with a multitude of tough guitar solos and complicated chord progressions to get through. The song is the encore from tier six, which sees you perform as Aerosmith at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
