Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Moonlighting" was a television series that starred Cybill Shepherd and Elvis Presley.

Answer: False

Although Cybill Shepherd DID actually date Elvis...
2. Peter Bogdanovich directed an episode of "Moonlighting".

Answer: False

Although Cybill dated him too, he only appeared as a guest star on an episode entitled "The Straight Poop". He never directed on the show.
3. Billy Joel had "Moonlighting" in mind when he wrote this song.

Answer: "Big Man on Mulberry Street"

It's been said that he wrote the song specifically for the show. It is heard during a great dream/dance scene between Bruce Willis and Sandahl Bergman in an episode aptly titled, "Big Man on Mulberry Street".
4. "Moonlighting" was consistently nominated for Emmy awards but never received one for Best Drama Series.

Answer: True

Although the show was nominated for 42 Emmys over 5 seasons, it never won for Best Dramatic Series. Speculation at the time was that the show didn't belong in the drama category. It was so innovative, there really wasn't a category for it.
5. Bruce Willis filmed "Die Hard" right after the series ended.

Answer: False

He got the opportunity to film "Die Hard" during a longer than usual hiatus due to Cybill Shepherd's pregnancy with twins.
6. Name the episode in which the characters Maddie and David slept together for the first time.

Answer: "I am Curious...Maddie"

Glenn Gordon Caron, the show's creator and producer, wanted to call the episode "The Big Bang" but the ABC censors wouldn't go for it.
7. "Moonlighting" did a take-off on a Shakespeare play and called it "Atomic Shakespeare". The play they spoofed was:

Answer: "The Taming of the Shrew"

The series received 15 Emmy nominations that season (86-87) including 8 for this episode. It won more Emmys than any other "Moonlighting" episode.
8. Bruce Willis was married to:

Answer: Demi Moore

He dated Sherry but married Demi. Dana was a guest star on a "Moonlighting" episode entitled "Knowing Her" and Gillian was a punk-rocking teenager back then.
9. This famous actor/writer/director made a guest appearance on "Moonlighting".

Answer: Orson Welles

Orson Welles introduced an episode as a favor to Cybill Shepherd, whom he knew through her relationship with Peter Bogdanovich. Unfortunately, he died shortly afterward so this was his last filmed appearance.
10. Free bonus points (not really) if you can name the episode on which Orson Welles guest starred.

Answer: "The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice"

This acclaimed episode, filmed mostly in black and white in the "film noir" style, helped the series garner a total of 16 Emmy nominations that year (85-86) including 8 for this particular episode. The episode walked away with only 1 statue that night, for single camera editing.
