Ga - Gm Movies Trivia Questions

1. Released in 2022, "Glass Onion" takes place during what real life time or event?

From Quiz
Looking Through a "Glass Onion"

Answer: the Covid-19 pandemic

There are a few references to the pandemic at the beginning of the movie including Claire (who is Governor of Connecticut) holding a press interview from her home (work from home), Benoit talking about how crazy he is going without a case to work on and Birdie being rebuked for having a party. She replies that it's alright because all these people are "in her pod". When the guests arrive on the dock, they are wearing masks, although Birdie's is made of open mesh. A man arrives and give each of them a shot of something in their mouths, telling them, immediately, that they are alright, thus disposing of the need to constantly take precautions. They then board the boat and head for the island. Miles Bron is played by Edward Norton, Benoit Blanc by Daniel Craig, Claire Debella by Kathryn Hahn, Lionel Toussaint is played by Leslie Odom Jr, Andi Brand is played by Janelle Monae, and Birdie Jay by Kate Hudson. Duke Cody is played by Dave Bautista, Peg by Jessica Henwick and Whiskey is played by Madelyn Cline.

2. Near the start of the film the central characters receive a box and set about solving the puzzles to open it however how does Ms Brand open the box?

From Quiz Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Answer: Smashes it with a hammer

At the start of the film the central characters receive a wooden box with no apparent way to open it. The characters then call each other and we cut between the different characters as they solve the various puzzles required to open the box which contains Miles' invitation to his island. After these characters have opened their boxes we then see another character, who turns out to be Helen Brand, smash open what we assume is her box with a hammer, to get to the invite inside.

3. Steve Carell played the lead role of Maxwell Smart in the film adaptation of "Get Smart". What was Max' special agent number?

From Quiz Get Smart

Answer: 86

Maxwell Smart was the lead character in both the movie and television versions of "Get Smart". In the television series, the role was famously played by Don Adams, who also provided the voice of animated spy Inspector Gadget during the 1980s. In the film, Max was a highly intelligent analyst with the fictional American spy agency CONTROL. However, despite passing the exam required to become a field agent, the Chief (Alan Arkin) felt Max would serve CONTROL better as an analyst. While Max was very skilled at information gathering, he was a clumsy buffoon when it came to spy tactics. However, the Chief was forced to promote him to a field agent after CONTROL headquarters was attacked by the terrorist organization, KAOS. The Chief declared Max to be Agent 86, which was also his number in the television series.

4. What type of animal do Jess and Gerald see on their way up to the cabin?

From Quiz Gerald's Game

Answer: Dog

Married couple Jess and Gerald pack up for a weekend and drive on up to their cabin for a sexy getaway together. Their trip starts as innocuously as one would expect. While driving up, Jess and Gerald come across a stray dog and Jess, finding too much meat in the fridge, decides to feed the animal. Gerald, meanwhile, takes a Viagra and brings Jess inside, rushing her into the cabin without even closing the door. Before long, the two of them end up in the bedroom, Jess in a new negligee and Gerald with a couple of pair of handcuffs. He places them around her wrists and tightens them around the bedposts.

5. Who won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA award as best actor for his performance as Gandhi?

From Quiz "Gandhi": Diminutive Giant for Peace

Answer: Ben Kingsley

Sir Ben Kingsley gave perhaps the virtuoso performance of his distinguished career in this lead role. At times during filming, local witnesses from outlying areas were convinced they were seeing the real Gandhi or his reincarnated being. The other three actors all acted in "Lawrence of Arabia", but did not appear in "Gandhi". Kingsley was born with the name Krishna Bhanji in Yorkshire, England in 1943. His father, although born in Kenya, was of Indian descent (his mother was British) so the role and the movie's subject were personally highly significant for him. Kingsley has received acclaim and awards for roles in multiple other films, including "Schindler's List" (1993), "Sexy Beast" (2000), "House of Sand and Fog" (2003), and "Hugo" (2011).

6. "Gertie the Dinosaur" was the brain child of one of the pioneers of animation. Who was he?

From Quiz Gertie the Dinosaur

Answer: Winsor McCay

All three other men were also involved with early animation. Disney, in particular, acknowledged the pioneering of McCay. When McCay's son visited Disney's studio in the 1950s, Disney told him, "Bob, all this should be your father's." McCay and his assistant, John A. Fitzsimmons, drew thousands of pictures on sheets of rice paper to create the animated portion of the film. McCay refused to patent his animation techniques, saying, "Any idiot that wants to make a couple of thousand drawings for a hundred feet of film is welcome to join the club." It's amazing to think that we've gone from this to computer animation in a hundred years.

7. Who directed the movie?

From Quiz GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Answer: Stephen Sommers

Stephen Sommers's most successful film was "The Mummy" starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz; it featured future "Rise of Cobra" cast member Arnold Vosloo as the Mummy. Sommers also directed the first sequel "The Mummy Returns" before moving on to other visual effects-heavy flicks like "Van Helsing" with Hugh Jackman. Steven Spielberg is a producer of the "Transformers" films. Jon Chu directed the sequel "GI Joe: Retaliation". Larry Hama has written most of the "GI Joe" comics.

8. The film "Gentleman's Agreement" was actually based on a 1947 novel of the same name. Which author, who made the choice to attend Cornell University, wrote "Gentleman's Agreement" as well as two autobiographies during the 1980s?

From Quiz Gentleman's Agreement

Answer: Laura Z. Hobson

Laura Z. Hobson was born with the last name Zametkin in 1900 and in the 1930s she worked for the magazines "Time", "Life", and "Fortune". The novel "Gentleman's Agreement" sold more than 1.6 million copies and it held the number one spot on the New York Times bestsellers' list. Her novels often focused on subjects that were considered taboo at the time such as radicalism and homosexuality.

9. Lisbeth and her first guardian, Holger Palmgren, enjoy what pastime during their periodic meetings?

From Quiz The Girl in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

Answer: chess

Although he never speaks in the film, we can tell by Lisbeth's attitude and treatment of him that Palmgren has been an effective and understanding guardian to her and that she trusts and respects him. We see her early on preparing to give him a chess book for Christmas and waiting for him to meet her. When the meeting falls through and she cannot contact him she goes to his home and arguably saves his life at the time of his stroke. Later we see them playing chess as Palmgren works to rehabilitate and Lisbeth updates him on what she has been doing ("I made a friend.").

10. What was the first name of Mrs. Muir's deceased husband?

From Quiz The Ghost and Mrs. Muir

Answer: Edwin

At the beginning of the movie, Mrs. Muir (Gene Tierney)was the recent widow of Edwin Muir. She was living with her husband's mother and sister, but being a very independent woman, wanted to get her own residence and decided to rent a seaside cottage. She moved into Gull Cottage with her daughter, Anna, and Martha her maid. This was also the basis of an American TV sit-com series in the late 1960s which starred Hope Lange and Edward Mulhare, although in the TV show, Mrs. Muir had two children.

11. At the start of the film Carter is discussing travelling to his home town to sort out some personal business, against the wishes of the Fletchers, his two bosses. What business does he have to sort out?

From Quiz Get Carter (1971)

Answer: What happened to his brother, Frank, who has just died

This forms the plot of the whole film. The Fletchers, and the police, appear to be satisfied that Carter's brother's death was not suspicious, but Carter doesn't believe this for a moment. Fletcher even says "The law was satisfied" to which Carter replies "When was that ever good enough for us?".

12. The movie "Giant" is based on a novel by whom?

From Quiz "Giant" - The Movie

Answer: Edna Ferber

Enda Ferber no doubt would have been a gifted author even without her membership and association with the notable "Algonquin Round Table" but the daily dose of their wit and wisdom must have been an asset rather than a liability to an up and coming writer. Ferber was able to prove her self worthy in many formats of literature. She wrote novels, shorts stories and plays. "Giant" became one of her best loved novels.

13. Jonah Hill starred in "Get Him to the Greek" as Aaron Green, a young man just starting out his career. Aaron was entrusted with accompanying rocker Aldous Snow from London to Los Angeles, for a special show at the Greek. Who starred as Aldous Snow?

From Quiz Get Him to the Greek

Answer: Russell Brand

Russell Brand's character, Aldous Snow, originated in the 2008 comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". Jonah Hill also had a role in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", but it was an entirely different character than in "Get Him to the Greek". Kristen Bell also briefly reprised her role as Sarah Marshall in "Get Him to the Greek". Director Nicholas Stoller and producer Judd Apatow also worked on both films. Russell Brand got his start in show business as a stand-up comedian, then as a radio/television host, and more recently began starring in films. He also dabbles in music - he has recorded many songs, including all of Aldous Snow's songs in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek". Brand married singer Katy Perry in October 2010; they had met on the set of "Get Him to the Greek", though Perry's scene was cut from the final movie.

14. In one of the first scenes of the movie, Rachel invites herself to get in Simon's car and he drives her to Hull. On the way into town, what does Rachel toss out of the car?

From Quiz Georgia Rule

Answer: cell phone

While on the way into Hull, Idaho, Rachel picks up her cell phone and tells Simon that her mom has cut her phone service off. Then, she tosses the cell phone out of the car.

15. Which character in the movie was referred to as a "borrowed ladder"?

From Quiz Gattaca (1997)

Answer: Vincent / Jerome

Vincent/Jerome (Ethan Hawke) was referred to twice (by himself and by his bother, Anton) as a "borrowed ladder" - someone who passed off another person's genetic identity as his own. The use of the word "ladder" gave the term a double meaning, as it called to mind the concept of achieving height or altitude to attain social status or success, and also referred to the structure or appearance of an uncoiled DNA strand. The movie utilized other terms with double meanings. For instance, cops were referred to as "Hoovers"; a reference to both J. Edgar Hoover (the first Director of the FBI) and the handheld vacuum cleaners carried by each of them. In another example, the term "in-valid" was used to distinguish natural births from genetically engineered births, or "valids", and was also a play on the word "invalid".

16. What is the full name of the cat who inherits Carlisle Castle?

From Quiz Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties
