Ryan Reynolds was born in Vancouver in 1976 and went to school and university there, although he dropped out of his university course. Shanawdithit died in captivity in 1829, and tragically she was the last of her people. With her death, in 1829, the Beothuks became extinct. They were a small, family orientated tribe; theirs was a hunter-gatherer society who had lived along the shores of Newfoundland Island. When European settlers came to this area they began to hunt the Beothuks. When Shanawdithit was born in 1801 her people already were almost extinct, from disease and slaughter. Towards the end of her life Shanawdithit, along with two other women (the last three remaining people of an entire race), were captured and held in captivity. The two other women died shortly after being captured. Shanawdithit was then taken into a private home where she helped document the life and traditions of her people. On June 6, 1829, she died of tuberculosis while still in captivity.

A mechanic, Joseph Armand Bombardier created his first snowmobile at the age of 15. It was basically a sled attached to an old Model T ford motor. His intentions where to create a machine that was capable of traveling on snow. In 1937 he created his first official snowmobile, the B7, which was an enclosed snow machine and could hold up to 7 people. That same year he received the patent for his "tracking drive system" called the caterpillar track, which enabled the machine to travel over the snow. In 1942 he created the B12 model which was able to hold up to 12 people. By the 1950's Bombardier was working on an individual snow machine. He had originally called it the Ski-dog, but a typo at the patent office and that's how the ski-doo got its name. The J Armand Bombardier Museum is in Valcourt Quebec.

Billy Bishop (1894-1956) was born in Owen Sound, Ontario, and entered the Royal Military College in Kingston in 1911. When war broke out in 1914, Billy, along with thousands of other Canadians, enlisted in the army and was shipped overseas to England for training before heading for the battlefields of Europe. It was in 1915 that Billy fell in love with flying, and he transferred from the army to the British air force to serve as an Observer. In 1916, he earned his wings as a pilot. When he was 23 (with 47 downs to his credit), he was promoted to the rank of Major, and by the end of the war he had downed 72 enemy aircraft (the last five in the final days of World War One). He was the most decorated Canadian in World War One, receiving both the Military Cross and the Victoria Cross in addition to other medals. His World War I exploits were chronicled in the very popular musical play 'Billy Bishop Goes to War".

He was approached by World's Fair exhibitors and, worrying about being able to feed all of his children, reluctantly signed a contract to display the girls. The next day he tore up the contract, but public outcry caused a chain reaction of events that lead to the removal of the girls from their parents' custody. The Ontario government ostensibly wanted to prevent the girls from being exploited, but that is exactly what they ended up doing.

Annette and Yvonne shared one embryonic sac; Marie and Emilie shared another. Cecile was by herself in a sac although there has been speculation that there may have been a sixth baby whom Mrs. Dionne miscarried early in the pregnancy. Constable William Irving Jr. of Webbwood Ontario was killed on July 17, 1904; his death made him the first provincial police officer (not the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) but the predecessor) to be killed in the line of duty. He had been an officer for several years when he had got shot. For more detailed information see http://www.oppa.ca/honour_roll/officers/l0039.html. In September 1792 the parliament of Upper Canada created a police system that would allow police officers to be responsible for specific regions. The Constable Act of 1871 allowed the police officers to be able to police throughout the whole province not just a specific area of it. October 13, 1909, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was officially formed. Originally it consisted of 45 men, each having an annual income of $400. Today the OPP is now the third largest police force in North America. To date, there have been approximately 94 OPP officers killed in the line of duty. The first OPP officer to die in the line of duty was Sergeant John Urquhant in 1923.

In the society that Madeleine grew up in, she would have been considered a young woman at fourteen, almost an adult. In 1699, at the age of fourteen Madeleine was left in charge of Fort de Vercheres. She was responsible for the fort and for the safety of a couple of soldiers, a servant, and her two younger brothers.
