Aaron received many deaths threats and totally uncalled for racial letters over his possibility of breaking Ruth's record. On April 4, 1974, Hank tied Ruth's record against the Reds with his 714th home run against the Cincinnati Reds and pitcher Jack Billingham. Four days later on April 8th, Aaron shrugged off all the threats against him and his family by hitting number 715. The pitch was provided by Al Downing of the Dodgers. The Braves won the game, but nothing more important than Hank breaking Ruth's all-time record. Ironically, Downing gave up only seven home runs in the season.
