In 1980, he won by 2 shots to Isao Aoki, after a great 1st round of 63.

Oosthuizen completed his last three rounds in 199 shots which tied a U.S. Open record as did his 29 on the back nine of the final round.

He became the first international golfer to win the US Open since Ted Ray, by beating Kel Nagle in a playoff 71 to 74. Player looked to have the win, being 3 shots ahead on the 15th in the final round. He double bogeyed the par 3 16th, and Nagle birdied the par 5 17th, to put them both on 2 over par. They both parred their way in to set up the playoff. Player had a 5 shot lead after 8 holes in the playoff, and it only dropped to 3 at the end.

Scott may be best known for his heartbreaking defeat at the 2012 Open Championship when he lost after having a four stroke lead with just four holes to play.

He won again in 1929 when he had a 69 in the first round, but still had to hole a 12 foot putt to go into a playoff with Al Espinosa, who he beat by 23 shots, firing another 69. Jones got the 3rd win of his Grand Slam at Interlachen Country Club in 1930, by going under par for only the 3rd time. He still had to hole a 40 foot putt on the last, to win over Macdonald Smith.

Gene first won after bursting onto the scene in 1920 as a 20 year old. After 3 rounds, he was 4 shots behind Bobby Jones and Bill Mehlhorn, but he fired a final round 68 including a birdie at the last, to win by a shot over Jones and John Black. He captured his second title in 1932 after shooting 100 for the last 28 holes, including a 66 on the final round to win by 3 shots. He became the second man to win both the British and US Opens in one year.

Had Johnson and Spieth been tied after 72 holes they would have played an 18 hole playoff on Monday.
