Amazing Race Canada 1 Trivia Questions

1. In St. John's, Newfoundland (in Leg 9), teams had to visit the statue of what famous Canadian figure?

From Quiz
"The Amazing Race Canada 1" [5]

Answer: Terry Fox & Fox

Continuing on directly from the Pit Stop in Leg 8 (in front of the Bluenose II), teams had to head to the ferry in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and catch a ride from Port aux Basques to the province's capital, St. John's. Once there, teams needed to reach Mile Zero of the Trans-Canada Highway where they could find a statue of Terry Fox. From there, teams needed to memorize a quote by the famous Canadian and bring it along with them to their next destination.

2. How many teams completed the 'Igloo Builder' Detour task in Nunavut in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [4]

Answer: None

In Leg 7, teams departed from Avenue Saint-Denis in Quebec City and were told to catch a series of planes taking them all the way up north to Iqaluit, Nunavut, the capital city of Canada's largest territory. Once there they found their next clue at Iqaluit Airport and needed to have a local read the Inuktitut on the page they received. This forced them to take taxis to Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park where, on foot, they had to find two throat-singers holding their Detour clue. Although two teams attempted the 'Igloo Builder' task, all five teams ended up finishing the other option.

3. In the beginning of Leg 5, teams flew from the Yukon to what Saskatchewan city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [3]

Answer: Regina

Commencing Leg 5 in the city of Whitehorse, Yukon, teams were told to proceed on foot to the SS Klondike, a freight ship docked in the Yukon River, where they would find their clue somewhere aboard the boat. This clue told teams to fly to the city of Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan. To do this, teams needed to take a flight to Vancouver and then connect to either Edmonton or Calgary en route to Regina. Half of the teams arrived forty minutes before the rest. Upon landing teams needed to find their marked cars, open the clue in the glove compartment, and receive their next clue from a new Blackberry device.

4. In Leg 3, teams flew to what Alberta city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [2]

Answer: Calgary

In Leg 3, teams departed from their second Pit Stop in the Vancouver Convention Center and set out to the airport to catch a flight taking them to Calgary, Alberta, home to the Calgary Stampede. Split onto two flights, the teams were told to make their way into the downtown core of the city to locate their next Route Marker in front of the Statue of Outlaw, a famous rodeo bull. There, teams would find their next clue. To get to Calgary, teams needed to book their flights online.

5. Where in Ontario was the starting line for "The Amazing Race Canada's" first season?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [1]

Answer: Niagara Falls

To commence the first-ever leg of "The Amazing Race Canada", nine teams were sent up the Niagara River towards the world-famous Niagara Falls and the start line at the Oakes Garden Theatre Park overlooking the natural wonder. Informed that the winners of this first leg would receive two Express Passes (one for themselves and one for another team), they were wished a safe trip and sent on their way to their first clue, waiting on their luggage further along the path. For their first task, teams were told to drive themselves (in a new Chevrolet Spark) to the Niagara Falls Butterfly Conservatory where they would find the first route marker.

6. In Leg 2, teams participated in which winter sport?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: Speed skating

In Leg 2, teams needed to fly to Vancouver, British Columbia where the Road Block waited outside the Richmond Olympic Oval. There, one member of each team was required to don skates and a proper speed skating outfit, then complete two laps of the Olympic rink in a minute and a half or less. Brett, Jet, Hal, Kristen, Tim Jr., Cory, Vanessa, and Jamie ended up fielding this one for their respective teams, following in the footsteps of Canadian Olympians.

7. During Leg 2 in British Columbia, both detour options took place in which location?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: Vancouver's Chinatown

In Leg 2, teams traveled from Kelowna, B.C. to the province's largest city, Vancouver, where eventually teams located their first Detour task of the race in front of the Millennium Gate in Chinatown. Here, teams chose either 'Dance It' or 'Draw It'. In 'Dance It', teams had to locate four pieces of a dragon outfit in different stores in Chinatown, then bring them to the Chinese Cultural center to perform a dance. Only Kristen and Darren and Jamie and Pierre finished this task. In 'Draw It', teams had to go to a tea house and memorize one Chinese symbol (each a symbol on the Chinese zodiac) each, then race to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden to properly transcribe it. All of the other teams finished this one.

8. During Leg 5 in Saskatchewan, two teams opted to take penalties instead of searching through piles of which material?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [3]

Answer: Lentils

After using their Blackberry devices, teams were given precise directions to their next destination: the Saskcan Pulse Trading Company. Once there they had to hop into the back of a double-binned truck and sift through several square feet of lentils to find two stuffed animals which, when combined, would direct them to the RCMP Heritage Center in Regina. This task, especially in the prairie heat, proved to be a difficult one and two teams-- Holly and Brett and Hal and Joanne-- opted to take two hour penalties for leaving the task incomplete, both finishing the wait at the Pit Stop. They had been searching for nearly three hours.

9. During their first leg of the race, the teams secured tickets on flights inevitably taking them to which B.C. city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [1]

Answer: Kelowna

Arriving at the Butterfly Conservatory, teams headed inside to locate one of nine different boxes, each containing some sort of live creature-- some deadly and some harmless. In each box were two clues, each containing a voucher for tickets flying through Vancouver, B.C. to Kelowna. Teams had to stick their hands inside to claim the clue, one per member, and the more dangerous the creature inside, the better the flight they would be booked on. Four teams took the first flight; five teams took the second. Upon arriving in Kelowna that night, teams had to drive to the Blue Bear, a statue outside Kelowna City Hall, to find an Interac van containing their next clue.

10. In Leg 3, only one team completed the 'Bone By Bone' Detour task in Alberta. Which one?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: Holly and Brett

In Leg 3, teams traveled to Calgary and Drumheller, Alberta where, inevitably, teams located their Detour task in the famous geological hoodoos of Alberta's badlands. There, teams chose either 'Bone By Bone' or 'Lump By Lump'. In the former task, completed by only Holly and Brett, teams had to construct a dinosaur skeleton in a museum laboratory based on the larger model on the museum show floor. In 'Lump By Lump', teams instead hauled coal into a mine cart, opting to complete a physical challenge.

11. In Leg 7, what team had to complete a Speed Bump task in the northern tundra?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [4]

Answer: Tim Sr. and Tim Jr.

Upon completing the Detour and returning their sleds, the racers had to climb the side of a large, snowy hill, and traverse an icy path to Frobisher Bay. Here, Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. were forced to complete the second Speed Bump of the race since they placed last in the Quebec City leg. For this task they had to take a team of sled dogs across the bay to locate a cache of food, then return it to their starting point. When this was done they could continue on with the regular sequence of tasks.

12. Who did not complete the RCMP Road Block task in Saskatchewan in Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [3]

Answer: Hal

Heading to the RCMP Heritage Center, teams found a Road Block task in which one member had to organize and set up a small dormitory to the exacting RCMP standards. Jet, Tim Sr., Celina, Joanne, Brett, and Jody ended up completing this task although in many cases it took several attempts over several hours. Following this task, the teams had to find the 'I Heart Regina' sign in front of City Hall and dance with Ukrainian locals to receive their next clue sending them to a Detour at the home of the Roughriders-- Mosaic Stadium.

13. During the 'Lump By Lump' Detour task in Leg 3 (in Alberta), teams needed to work with what material?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [2]

Answer: Coal

After the Road Block was complete, teams needed to drive to the city of Drumheller, Alberta to locate their next clue box waiting amongst the famous Drumheller Hoodoos. This was the teams' Detour task for this leg of the race. All but Holly and Brett chose to complete 'Lump By Lump', a task sending them on a train ride to the Atlas Coal Mine to don coal miner gear and shovel enough coal to fill a large mining cart to the brim. When a prospector deemed their cart ready for hauling they would receive their next clue.

14. In Leg 1, team members completing the first Road block of the race had to dive underwater to find a statue of what famous B.C. 'legend'?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [1]

Answer: Ogopogo

After finding the Blue Bear, teams needed to pull numbers for their next task at the Lakefront Water Sports Kiosk in Kelowna. The following morning they received their Road Block task requiring that both team members take a sea-doo and follow a rudimentary map to a diving station where the selected team member would don diving equipment and sink into Lake Okanagan to find a statue of Ogopogo, a Loch-Ness-Monster-type creature found in the depths. Once the team member found the clue tethered to the statue they could surface and return to shore. Brett, Darren, Hal, Dave, Tim Jr., Vanessa, Cory, Jamie, and Tennille completed this first task.

15. In Leg 4, team members performed a 'polar bear dip' for their Road Block in the waters of what lake?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: Great Slave Lake

Flying to Yellowknife (and then, later, Carcross in the Yukon) for Leg 4, teams had to run out onto the icy Great Slave Lake to collect their Road Block task. In this one, team members were told to change into their bathing suits to perform a chilling 'polar bear dip', jumping into the frigid waters of Great Slave Lake and retrieving the clue on the other side of the opening in the ice. Team members completing this task included Holly, Cory, Hal, Dave, Tim Jr., Celina, and Darren.

16. In Leg 3, one team attempted the 'Bone By Bone' Detour task in Alberta. What did they need to create?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [2]

Answer: A dinosaur

Instead of 'Lump By Lump', teams could also choose 'Bone By Bone', the second Detour option (which Holly and Brett did). For this they needed to head to Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Midland Provincial Park and observe a specific dinosaur skeleton. They were then sent to a specific room in order to recreate the skeleton (properly) with all of the necessary bones. When the dinosaur was properly constructed they would be able to receive their next clue.

17. During the fifth leg of the race, team members completed a Road Block at the headquarters for which important Canadian organization in Regina, Saskatchewan?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Heading to the RCMP Headquarters in Regina, team members were required to go to a room in the building and properly set up their living quarters to the exacting standards of their squad leader, hanging up clothes, folding bedsheets, and assembling the space to regulation. The task, taking many teams several hours to complete, was done by Jet, Tim Sr., Celina, Joanne, Brett, and Jody.

18. In Leg 5, teams completed Detour tasks involving which popular Saskatchewan sport?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: Football

During the race's fifth leg, teams flew to Regina, Saskatchewan for a series of tasks culminating in a difficult Detour on the home field of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Mosaic Stadium. Here, teams chose either 'Brawn', involving a series of football drills, or 'Beauty', involving a choreographed cheerleading routine involving lifts. Jet and Dave, Hal and Joanne, Tim Jr. and Tim Sr., and Jody and Cory completed 'Brawn' while Holly and Brett and Vanessa and Celina completed 'Beauty'...just in time to visit a Double U-Turn.

19. Which team was eliminated in Newfoundland in Leg 9?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [5]

Answer: Jet and Dave

After the Road Block the teams needed to take taxis onward to the final Pit Stop of the race at the country's easternmost point, Cape Spear, where they could find the Pit Stop waiting under Canada's oldest standing lighthouse. Jody and Cory narrowly outran Vanessa and Celina to win their third consecutive leg of the race. This time they won a year's-worth of Air Canada Altitude Super Elite 100K status, enhancing their flight classes, especially on those they'd already won. In the end, front-runners Jet and Dave struggled to keep up to the other teams and, after a poor Road Block showing, they were eliminated in fourth place.

20. Which team was eliminated from the race in Nunavut in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [4]

Answer: Brett and Holly

After the Road Block, the teams were told to race on foot, one kilometer northwest through the Nunavut tundra (and up a hillside) to an outlook atop the Canadian arctic where they would find their seventh Pit Stop in a race across Canada. Jody and Cory, despite Cory's prosthetic legs, accomplished a first place victory (their first), winning two plane tickets (courtesy of Air Canada) to the Caribbean. In the end, Brett and Holly were unable to catch up from their poor Detour showing and they were eliminated in fifth place.

21. Which team was eliminated in Saskatchewan at the end of Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [3]

Answer: Hal and Joanne

After the Detour task, teams had to drive themselves to Pine Island to find their fifth Pit Stop. After another leg ahead of the other teams, Jet and Dave won their second consecutive leg, this time taking with them a trip for two to any Canadian destination courtesy of Air Canada. As the teams checked in, it was Holly and Brett who were able to overcome the U-Turn the fastest despite intense fatigue. They checked in before Hal and Joanne who were eliminated in sixth place without needing to wait out their penalty. The remainder of Brett and Holly's penalty would be added to their time at the start of the sixth leg.

22. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Alberta in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [2]

Answer: Tim Sr. and Tim Jr.

After the Detour, teams were told to head to the third Pit Stop of the race overlooking Horse Thief Canyon near Drumheller, Alberta. Hal and Joanne, who jetted ahead after the Road Block, coasted to their first victory of the race, placing first and winning a trip for two anywhere in the United States courtesy of Air Canada. After a poor showing in the Road Block and getting lost after the Detour, Tim Jr. and Tim Sr. arrived at the Pit Stop in last place. Luckily, they were spared by the first non-elimination round of the race.

23. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 1 in British Columbia?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [1]

Answer: Treena and Tennille

After their second Road Block task, teams headed to their first Pit Stop of the race, the Quails' Gate Winery in the Okanagan Highlands outside Kelowna, B.C. The first team to arrive, by a hair, was Kristen and Darren; the hippie duo won themselves both Express Passes as well as a trip for two to Sydney, Australia courtesy of Air Canada. In the end, two teams received penalties, both for not collecting both clues at the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls. Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. waited out their half hour, dropping to sixth, but it was Treena and Tennille who felt the brunt of the penalty; they dropped from eighth to ninth place and were the first team eliminated from the race.

24. Flying to Quebec, team members completing the Road Block in Leg 6 were asked to make which food item?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: Crepes

Traveling by taxi to the Place de l'Université-du-Québec, the six teams were met with another Road Block, this one requiring that the selected team member take orders for crepes-- two savory and two sweet-- and make them at a nearby station containing the exact ingredients, given to them in French. Once they properly served their patrons with the tricky dishes, they would be able to continue on with the race. Dave, Holly, Cory, Vanessa, and Tim Jr. made their crepes in this leg.

25. In Leg 8, teams flew into what Nova Scotian city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [4]

Answer: Halifax

Starting Leg 8 in snowy Iqaluit, teams were told to catch the next flight (which turned out to be a series of flights) to Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia. Once they landed they needed to head to the roof of a nearby parking garage to find their manual Chevy Sonic vehicles. Inside was their next clue containing a USB stick which, when plugged into a port in the glove compartment, would give their next clue sending them to historic Pier 21 in Halifax.

26. In Leg 6, teams flew to which French-speaking city in Quebec?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [3]

Answer: Quebec City

Departing from Wascana Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, the final five teams needed to take flights a great deal across the country to Quebec City, connecting through several options midway. Ultimately, teams arrived in the evening and late night, getting caught up waiting for their next destination to open. The next morning, teams had to search the grounds of the Levis Forts National Monument in Levis, Quebec to find their next clue. At this point, all five teams were on even ground.

27. In Leg 4, teams did not fly to which northern territory?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [2]

Answer: Nunavut

After their mandatory Pit Stop, teams began Leg 4 by opening clues sending them directly to the airport to catch a flight northbound to Yellowknife, the capital city of the Northwest Territories. All seven remaining teams arrived on the same flight passing through Edmonton. Upon touching down in this northerly city, teams needed to hop into brand new Chevrolet Traverse and head to the Bush Pilot's Monument, a statue sitting atop Yellowknife, to find their next clue.

28. In the beginning of Leg 2, teams were told to fly directly to what coastal B.C. city for the rest of the leg?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 1" [1]

Answer: Vancouver

Opening clues early in the morning at the Quails' Gate Winery on the shores of Lake Okanagan, teams were told to take a taxi to the airport and catch a flight to Vancouver, B.C., one of the westernmost cities of Canada and the host of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Upon their arrival in this livable city, teams needed to run through the Vancouver International Airport to locate the Maple Leaf Lounge to locate their next clue.

29. How many individual racers ate Muktuk during the Road Block in Nunavut in Leg 7?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race Canada 1"

Answer: Five

In Leg 7, with only five teams remaining, the race headed northward from Quebec City to Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut, the northeastern-most territory in Canada. There, on the edge of the frozen Frobisher Bay, teams found a Road Block waiting at an old Hudson Bay Company Trading Post at which one member of each pair had to eat ten pieces of Muktuk without throwing it up. Muktuk, of course, is uncooked whale blubber. The task was stomached by Jody, Tim Sr., Celina, Jet, and Brett.

30. In Leg 10, teams had to search through hundreds of what chocolate bar to receive their next clue?
