Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the first leg of the race, teams commenced the season on the American side of the depicted landmark.

Answer: False

Although the symbolism of the U.S. version of the show passing the torch to Canada's own racers may have been present, the first-ever "Amazing Race Canada" only made sense to start on the Canadian side of the world-famous Niagara Falls. Nine teams of two began at the Oakes Garden Theatre Park and visited the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory before leaving for their first far-away destination in Leg 1: British Columbia.

The starting line, of course, overlooked the majestic Horseshoe Falls, a national symbol.
2. To what former Olympic host city did teams fly in Leg 2?

Answer: Vancouver

During the second leg of the race, eight teams flew from Kelowna to Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia, where they completed a series of tasks relating to the Winter Olympic games (particularly speed skating in the Richmond Oval) and the city's multicultural heritage.

This second leg of the race was also the first to feature a Detour, the choices of which took teams through Vancouver's famous Chinatown region. Ultimate, this leg of the race ended with a bird's eye view of the city and a Pit Stop atop the Vancouver Convention Center.
3. In Leg 3, teams traveled to Alberta, visiting Drumheller and what unique natural geological spires?

Answer: Hoodoos

Heading to Calgary, Alberta in Leg 3, teams subsequently drove northward toward the badlands of Alberta, inevitably finding a clue nestled amongst the hoodoos of Drumheller, one of the more unique natural occurrences in the province. Here, the seven remaining teams were given their Detour task, sending them to work with the local coal mining industry or trying their hand with archaeology at a nearby dinosaur museum.
4. The Pit Stop in Leg 4 of the race was held in Carcross Desert, a location found in which part of Canada?

Answer: Yukon Territory

A truly unique Canadian locale, Carcross Desert is found within a square mile radius in the shadow of nearby mountains. Considered one of the smallest deserts in the world, it played host to the fourth Pit Stop in the race during a leg in which teams traveled from Drumheller, Alberta to Calgary to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories to Carcross, a small, former mining town nestled into the hills of the Yukon.

At this Pit Stop, Kristen and Darren were eliminated from the race in seventh place without having used their Express Pass.
5. In Leg 5, teams found which of the following at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan?

Answer: Double U-Turn

After a grueling fifth leg of the race, teams headed to Taylor Field, specifically to Mosaic Stadium, home of the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders, to complete a Detour task involving either football or cheerleading. When this was complete, the teams then had to race up to the luxury box overlooking the stadium to get their next clue, right next to the first of two Double U-Turns of the race.

The mechanic was used by Tim Jr. and Tim Sr. to force Hal and Joanne back; it was also used by Hal and Joanne to force back Brett and Holly. Hal and Joanne were subsequently eliminated.
6. During the sixth leg of the race, teams flew to Montreal to complete their tasks.

Answer: False

The image shown and the entirety of Leg 6 was actually done in Quebec City and the surrounding area taking teams from the Lévis Forts National Historic Site to the Chateau Frontenac and Old Quebec to the historic Plains of Abraham. In this leg of the race, with only five teams remaining, the racers had to carve ice sculptures during a Detour task, make crepes during the Road Block, and learn how to play lacrosse before checking into the non-elimination Pit Stop.
7. Teams flew to Iqaluit, Nunavut in Leg 7, completing a number of tasks around what oft-ice-covered bay in this northern territory?

Answer: Frobisher Bay

Heading northward from Quebec to Canada's third territory, Nunavut, teams were in for a land of ice and snow upon their arrival and were forced to complete a number of mainly-physical tasks on the tundra and icy waters near Frobisher Bay. The Speed Bump, in fact, involved crossing the bay on dogsleds while another clue told teams to ride a snowmobile to a Hudson Bay Company Trading Post.

In this leg of the race, teams also ate a local dish pulled up from the waters-- muktuk, better known as whale blubber.
8. In Leg 8, teams found their Pit Stop in front of what famous boat found on the Canadian dime?

Answer: Bluenose II

In the eighth leg of the race, the final four teams raced to Halifax, Nova Scotia, slowly snaking their way over to the province's West Coast. The race continued to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, home of the Bluenose II (depicted on the Canadian dime), the eventual Pit Stop of the leg and the only one at which a mandatory twelve-hour rest period was not given.

Instead, racers were told to keep going and were handed their clues immediately.
9. The ninth Pit Stop of the race, found in Newfoundland, was which of these, also the easternmost point of North America?

Answer: Cape Spear

In the end of Leg 9, after an extensive double leg taking the final four from Iqaluit, Nunavut to Halifax, Nova Scotia to St. John's, Newfoundland, teams completed a Road Block in the downtown streets of North America's easternmost capital and were told to make their way by taxi to the final Pit Stop of the race, Cape Spear. Cape Spear, also the easternmost point in all of North America, made an interesting backdrop for the elimination of strong racers Jet and Dave, leaving the final three.
10. The final Road Block of the race was held at the Evergreen Brickworks, a historical site in what Canadian city?

Answer: Toronto

Found in the Don River, the Evergreen Brickworks was one of many important route markers for the final three teams racing to the finish line. After visiting the L Tower for a Road Block, the Cadbury Chocolate Factory, and the Metro Toronto Zoo, teams found their final Road Block, a memory test of Pit Stops, provincial flags, and provincial flowers, all encountered on the course, before heading to Toronto Island in Lake Ontario. Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. subsequently became the first father-son team of all time to win an "Amazing Race".
