Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Trivia Questions

1. What spell does Professor Sprout teach Harry?

From Quiz
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Answer: Diffindo

Diffindo is used to sever plants. After learning the spell, Harry must complete the Diffindo challenge, which is accomplished by reaching the giant star at the end. The quicker he completes the challenge, the more house points Harry receives. If Harry's house (Gryffindor) earns the most points, he can take a trip into the bean bonus room, an area of Hogwarts filled with Bertie Bott's beans. Beans are important in this game, since they can be used to trade for other items. Ron teaches Harry the Lumos spell (a spell that creates light from the end of the wand), since it is a spell Harry learned the previous year and Ron wants to make sure Harry remembers it. Professor Flitwick, the Charms teacher, instructs Harry on the Skurge spell (a spell that removes a ghost's ectoplasm). Professor Lockhart teaches Rictusempra (a stunning spell).

2. How many Weasleys do you encounter during the game?

From Quiz "Harry Potter 2" (GBC)

Answer: Seven

You see Mr. and Mrs. Weasley and Percy at their home, the Burrow. Fred and George again run their Wizarding Wares, but they each have their own 'tuck shops' this time - one the Ground Floor and the Seventh Floor of Hogwarts. Ginny is sometimes seen wandering around Hogwarts and of course, she is taken by the Basilisk. As always, Ron is your loyal companion throughout the game.

3. Where do you first start taking the control of Harry?

From Quiz 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

Answer: Whomping Willow

The tutorial part shows Harry at Diagon Alley with Ron's sister Ginny. He is in Surrey when Dobby the House Elf visits to give him the warning. They are not seen at The Burrow.

4. Where does the gameplay start (not counting introductory cutscenes)?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" for PC

Answer: At the Whomping Willow

The interactive part of the game begins at the Whomping Willow, where Harry must free Ron from one of the Willow's branches after they crash the Weasleys' flying car. This section of the game is designed as a review of the spells learned in the "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" game.

5. Where do you never go in Diagon Alley?

From Quiz Exploring Hogwarts on the Game Boy Advance

Answer: Madam Malkin's

You can see Madam Malkin's, but it is closed, and you're not allowed in.

6. To make the Wiggenweld Potion, Harry needs to place two ingredients into a cauldron. These cauldrons are found all around Hogwarts and its grounds. However, in which location can Harry not find a cauldron?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Answer: Inside Hagrid's hut

The Wiggneweld Potion allows Harry to regain some of his stamina. To create it, Harry needs to place Wiggentree bark and Flobberworm mucus into a cauldron. For each pair that he places into a cauldron, he creates one potion. When Snape teaches Harry to make the potion, they use the cauldron in Snape's classroom. This cauldron can be used in other instances as well. Furthermore, Harry can also find cauldrons in a variety of places including Gryffindor common room, bottom of the Grand Staircase, Forbidden Forest, near the staircase right after entering the main doors of Hogwarts, Herbology greenhouse, a few hallways and classrooms, and even deep within the Chamber of Secrets. Hagrid's hut, on the other hand, contains no cauldrons. In fact, Harry can't even go inside Hagrid's hut.

7. Where do you not get to visit in Diagon Alley?

From Quiz "Harry Potter 2" (GBC)

Answer: Borgin and Burkes

Did I catch you out? Borgin and Burkes is in Knockturn Alley. For some reason, Olivander's wasn't in Diagon Alley in this game and neither was Madam Malkin's, or the cauldron shop. I'm not sure what the first years will do about getting their wands, robes and cauldrons, but somehow Ginny managed to get them!

8. How many challenge stars do you need to find in the Diffindo spell challenge?

From Quiz 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

Answer: Fourteen

You only need ten in the Rictusempra and Skurge challenges. You don't get thirteen in any and you don't get twelve in any. Diffindo is the only challenge where you need to find fourteen challenge stars.

9. Where is the final challenge star (not the Completion Star) in the Rictusempra Challenge?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" for PC

Answer: In the secret area behind Lockhart's portrait in the Fire Crab pit beow the Completion Star

This secret area also contains a Silver Wizard Card. Also, if you go into the secret area after dumping only two Fire Crabs in and running underneath the floor of the pit, the floor comes down just as if you had dumped in another Fire Crab, saving precious time.

10. What is your first task when you get to Hogwarts?

From Quiz Exploring Hogwarts on the Game Boy Advance

Answer: Meet Ron in the Gryffindor dormitory

The first task, which Snape assigns, is to go to your dormitory.

11. After Harry's initial dueling lesson, he has the chance to practice dueling against other students. What does Harry bet before he competes in a duel?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Answer: Beans

Harry's first dueling lesson is presided over by Professors Snape and Lockhart. Harry's opponent is Draco Malfoy. Harry can perform one of three spells: Rictusempra (stuns an opponent), Mimblewimble (confuses an opponent), and Expelliarmus (reflects an opponent's spell). The goal is to cause the opponent's stamina to reach zero before Harry's stamina reaches zero. After this initial lesson, Harry can challenge students standing near the Great Hall. Before he begins, Harry must bet a predetermined number of Bertie Bott's beans. If Harry wins, he keeps his beans and gains the same amount of beans from his opponent. If Harry loses, he must give up the beans. At any time between the initial dueling lesson and the end of the game can Harry challenge an opponent to a dueling match.

12. Who is the first professor you see when you arrive at Hogwarts?

From Quiz "Harry Potter 2" (GBC)

Answer: Professor Snape

Unfortunately it is Snape, when you have just been moaning about him! Luckily, he is not in charge of expelling you - and you get off (fairly lightly) with detention. Ron ends up with helping Filch, but you have to help Lockhart answer his fan-mail! This Gameboy Color game is very true to the book!

13. Which spell do you learn first?

From Quiz 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

Answer: Rictusempra

You learn Spongify last, Skurge second, and Diffindo third. Professor Lockhart teaches you the Rictusempra spell.

14. What is behind that door that could never open in the Gryffindor Common Room?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" for PC

Answer: The Gryffindor Challenge

The Challenge can only be accessed in Debug Mode, which requires changing the game code files. The instuctions on how to do this can be found at any decent cheat code website. It is actually quite a fun challenge, with bunches of secret areas and TONS of beans.

15. In Quidditch, what order does Gryffindor play the other Houses?

From Quiz "Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets" PS2

Answer: Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin

When Harry is at practice, Wood informs him that Gryffindor will take part in a practice game against Hufflepuff. The first real match is against Hufflepuff, the second is against Ravenclaw, and the final game is against Slytherin. The last match is immediately followed by the announcement of the winner of the Quidditch House Cup.

16. What flavor of 'Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans' can not be found at Hogwarts?

From Quiz Exploring Hogwarts on the Game Boy Advance

Answer: Potato

Banana and chocolate beans can be found in the bean challenge areas, while tomato beans are scattered around the school.

17. What spell does Harry learn last?

From Quiz Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Answer: Spongify

The spells that Harry learns from different professors are, in order, Rictusempra, Skurge, Diffindo, and Spongify. Professor Lockhart teaches Harry the Spongify spell. In fact, he is the only professor to teach Harry more than one spell (the Rictusempra spell and the Spongify spell). Casting the Spongify spell allows Harry to light up a carpet. When Harry jumps on the carpet, he will bounce across great distances and over long gaps. It also allows Harry to jump up to a higher area without the use of stairs. To identify one of these carpets, Harry needs to look for a green spiral shape.

18. Who teaches Harry the Skurge spell?

From Quiz 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

Answer: Professor Flitwick

Professor Snape teaches Potions so that's not it. Professor Lockhart teaches Harry Rictusempra and Professor Sprout teaches Diffindo to Harry.

19. Where would you find wizard cards featuring people from the band "The Weird Sisters"?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" for PC

Answer: The Rictusempra Challenge

There are eight "Weird Sisters" cards in the Rictusempra Challenge; five of them bronze and three silver. Judging from their pictures, the group is a cross-dressing rock band.

20. What color are the Hufflepuff robes?

From Quiz "Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets" PS2

Answer: Purple

Red is Gryffindor, Green is Slytherin, Blue is Ravenclaw, and Yellow is just the Hufflepuff House colors, although the robes are Purple.

21. How many house points do you earn for getting all 25 challenge stars in a lesson?

From Quiz Exploring Hogwarts on the Game Boy Advance

Answer: 45

Some challenge stars are easy to find, while others are much more difficult.

22. Where do you learn the spell 'Skurge'?

From Quiz "Harry Potter 2" (GBC)

Answer: From Filch's Kwikspell book

To find this spell, you go up to Filch's desk and press A, and you find his secret book. He then rushes in - but it is too late: you know he is a Squib and you have a new spell. You learn Petrificus Totalus from Katie, and Incendio from Professor Sprout. Mr Weasley teaches you Informous.

23. What kind of creature is the Basilisk which Harry has to fight in the Chamber of Secrets itself?

From Quiz 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

Answer: Snake

It's definitely not a Hippogriff; we don't see that until the third movie. We see spiders in the chamber but that is not lurking at the end. A giant rat is something it couldn't be. Harry keeps hearing something no one else can and we know that Harry speaks Parseltongue. Parseltongue is snake language so the monster in the chamber has to be a Basilisk, a king of serpents.

24. Where do you first encounter the mean, nasty spiders?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" for PC

Answer: On your way to find the Shredded Boomslang Skin

The early spiders look nasty, but are actually fairly harmless. The spiders at Aragog's lair, however, can kill you very quickly if you aren't careful.

25. How many knuts does it cost to buy a dungbomb at Fred's shop?

From Quiz Exploring Hogwarts on the Game Boy Advance

Answer: 50

If you are a skilled player, you probably won't need Fred's pranks.

26. Who set up the bean trading system?

From Quiz 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

Answer: Fred and George Weasley

Hermione and Ron probably wouldn't be that interested about starting something like that. Draco is too evil to do anything of the sort and we don't really see him much in the PC game. So that leaves us with Fred and George who would love to set something like this up but we only see them when they tell us this and when we want to buy the broomstick and Quidditch armor from them (or when we are playing Quidditch).

27. In the Whomping Willow, what plant can make you dizzy if you are too close when it explodes?

From Quiz "Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets" PS2

Answer: Puffapods

These annoying little plants can either be hit by Flippendo or picked up and thrown before they explode. The only downside to using Flippendo on them is that they grow back very quickly. If you pick them up and throw them, it takes a little longer for them to come back.

28. Who is Professor Lockharts assistant at the dueling club?

From Quiz 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

Answer: Professor Snape

Professors Mcgonagall, Sprout and Flitwick are not really seen much. At being called the assistant Professor Snape says "I'm your colleague, not your assistant".

29. What is the name of the boy or girl that you duel at the 200 bean level?

From Quiz "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" for PC

Answer: Peter

Once you can beat Peter, you'll never have bean shortages again. I find that using Expelliarmus is very effective in beating people quickly and painlessly.

30. What is the only spell that you can purchase at Fred's and George's Shop?

From Quiz "Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets" PS2

Answer: Alohomora

When this spell is used, it can unlock chests that are protected by special locks. Lumos is the light spell and can be found in Borgin and Burkes. Expecto Patronum is the spell used to produce a Patronus and Skurge is to get rid of any ectoplasm in your way.
