Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Judi wants to find a PARK SEAT.

Answer: Dench

The rhyming clue refers to a BENCH.

Judi Dench was granted a damehood in 1988 for her services to acting. This title was awarded by Queen Elizabeth II but it was for playing Queen Elizabeth I that Dench won an Oscar. Even though she only spent approximately eight minutes on screen, Dench was awarded the 'Best Actress in a Supporting Role' statuette as part of the seven awards given to "Shakespeare in Love" during the 1999 ceremony.
2. Brad's analysis indicates that he just needs a BASEBALL GLOVE.

Answer: Pitt

The rhyming clue refers to a MITT.

The 2011 movie "Moneyball" was nominated for six Oscars including 'Best Picture', 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' (Brad Pitt) and 'Best Actor in a Supporting Role' (Jonah Hill). In this film, Pitt stars as the general manager of a baseball team who uses statistical analysis to try put together a winning team with only a meagre budget.

Pitt didn't win for "Moneyball" and had to wait until 2014 for his first Oscar although this was as a producer on the film "12 Years a Slave". His first acting Oscar was won in 2020 for his role in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".
3. Quick! Louise needs a WHEELLESS GURNEY.

Answer: Fletcher

The rhyming clue refers to a STRETCHER.

Louise Fletcher won 'Best Actress in a Leading Role' for playing Nurse Ratched in 1975's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". This was her only Oscar nomination in a long acting career that spanned seven decades. Perhaps a stretcher was used in 2022 when Fletcher died of natural causes, aged 88.
4. To find his surname, Nicolas needs to rein in his ANGER.

Answer: Cage

The rhyming clue refers to RAGE.

Nicolas Cage starred in the 1997 film "Face/Off" which is all about a quest for vengeance. In it, he's required to play two roles after his character undergoes face transplant surgery with one played by John Travolta. Although receiving critical acclaim for his performance, Cage didn't receive an Oscar nomination for that film. I imagine he wasn't too mad though, since he'd already won an Oscar for "Leaving Las Vegas" two years before.
5. Frankly, my dear, Clark is on the hunt for an ITEM OF FURNITURE.

Answer: Gable

The rhyming clue refers to a TABLE.

Clark Gable was Oscar-nominated for playing Rhett Butler in the 1939 film "Gone with the Wind" where he says the famous quote: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn". He was also nominated for his roles in "Mutiny on the Bounty" and "It Happened One Night", winning the statuette for the latter. Interestingly, all three of these classic films also took home the 'Best Picture' Oscars in their respective years.
6. Drink some milk and maybe you can help Sean find his GENTS.

Answer: Penn

The rhyming clue refers to MEN.

Sean Penn is an American actor who won the 'Best Actor' Oscar for starring as Harvey Milk in the 2008 film "Milk".

Before that, he had starred in the 2006 remake of the 1949 Best Picture winner: "All the King's Men". This movie was based off a Pulitzer Prize winning novel which was written by a man whose middle name might sound familiar to Sean: Robert Penn Warren.
7. Don't cry, Hilary! It's just a LIGHT-HEARTED JAPE.

Answer: Swank

The rhyming clue refers to a PRANK.

Hilary Swank played a young transgender man named Brandon in the 1999 film "Boys Don't Cry" and was awarded the Oscar for 'Best Actress in a Leading Role' the following year. Reflecting on the role in 2019, Swank, a cisgender woman, said that she considers this role as the "most important thing [she] was ever a part of" and said that it helped to kickstart the ongoing cultural conversation about trans actors being able to tell their own stories.
8. Jessica is always looking for CONFECTIONERY.

Answer: Tandy

The rhyming clue refers to CANDY.

Jessica Tandy won her only Oscar when she was 80 years old, making her one of only a small number of octogenarians to have received this kind of recognition. She won for her role in the 1989 film "Driving Miss Daisy" which centres around a white, retired schoolteacher (Tandy) and the relationship she forms with her newly-hired, African-American chauffeur Hoke (Morgan Freeman).

Two years later, Tandy received a second Oscar nomination for the film "Fried Green Tomatoes" although didn't walk away with the statuette that time around.
9. Regina needs a HOOP before she feels complete.

Answer: King

The rhyming clue refers to a RING.

Regina King won the 'Best Actress in a Supporting Role' Oscar for playing Sharon Rivers in the 2018 film "If Beale Street Could Talk". Since winning, King has branched out into directing, with her first feature-length film ("One Night in Miami...") being released in 2020.
10. Don't give up! Meryl needs EWES.

Answer: Streep

The rhyming clue refers to SHEEP.

Although the movie isn't actually about sheep, Meryl Streep did star in 2007's "Lions for Lambs". She plays a journalist who's asked to report on a US senator's military strategy. She wasn't nominated for an Oscar for this performance but I doubt she minded because by 2007, Meryl already had thirteen nominations under her belt, including two wins.
