They ended up in the desert because the townspeople had run them out of town. Phoney wasn't exactly a popular citizen in Boneville.

Ted is a bug that Fone Bone finds when he's looking for Smiley. He almost stepped on him as he was so happy to see one of Smiley's cigar butts. He thought Ted was a leaf!

Answer: rat creatures

The rat creatures work for Kingdok and the 'hooded one' and it's their mission to get the 'one who bears the star'.
