Cyclops felt that the X-Men were backed into a corner and since Cable had apparently gone rogue, they had no option but to kill him. Fortunately, we later see that Cable had not gone rogue, only that he was acting in information the X-Men didn't have.

A panicked mutant, Peter, called X-Factor to say that he was being followed and needed help. But by the time Siryn got to his car, Predator X had already eaten his fill.

Emma points out that he's been breathing in Dust for the past three minutes. Dust emerges from him, puncturing his lungs in the process. Dust and Emma had the aforementioned exchange after Emma taunts Exodus, saying that his lungs were sure to be good as new after a little prayer and fasting.
