Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. ECW's shows were largely staged at the "ECW Arena". What was the "Arena" formerly?

Answer: A warehouse

The warehouse is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is in South Philadelphia at the corner of South Swanson Street and West Ritner Street. It was even known locally as the ECW Arena until the promotion's demise in 2001.
2. The ECW World Heavyweight Championship was the prize jewel of the company which was held by several great competitors, both in the original ECW and the WWE relaunch. Who was the inaugural champion?

Answer: Jimmy Snuka

Jimmy Snuka made history by defeating Salvatore Bellomo in a tournament on April the twenty-fifth, 1992, to become the very first NWA-ECW Heavyweight Champion. ECW split from the NWA a couple of years later and when Shane Douglas essentially won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, he threw the belt aside and declared himself the "ECW World Heavyweight Champion". In what is a strange twist of fate, Jimmy Snuka lost the title the following day to Johnny Hotbody.

The Sandman, who would become a staple part of the company over the next few years, won the championship for the first time in November of 1992.
3. What was ECW's very first pay per view called?

Answer: Barely Legal

The owner of ECW, Paul Heyman, had to try everything he could just to get the pay per view to air in the first place. Usually, pay per views were given a 7:00 p.m. time slot but for Barely Legal, a time slot for 9:00 p.m. was set. The event witnessed an emotional World Championship victory for Terry Funk, and the show ended with a celebration for Terry. An electric power transformer couldn't stand the amount of power pumped through the building and blew out shortly after the event ended. Had the show run even ten seconds longer, as recalled by former ECW talent present that night, the show would have ended in disaster and Paul Heyman remained bitter about the incident for a long time afterwards.
4. Tommy Dreamer's feud with Raven was one of the longest and most unique feuds of the time. What made it so unique?

Answer: Tommy Dreamer was never able to defeat Raven

As very fondly recalled by fans as one of the most brutal yet beautifully constructed feuds in the history of ECW, the feud saw Dreamer coming ever so close several times but never actually getting a victory. In June 1997, at ECW's Wrestlepalooza event, Raven competed against Tommy Dreamer for his final match in ECW before going to WCW.

It was in this match that Dreamer was finally able to pin Raven after an extremely bitter rivalry.
5. Sabu competed in one of the most brutal matches in ECW history against Terry Funk in a Barbed Wire match. During the match, Sabu's bicep was ripped open by the wire and he was bleeding profusely. He was handed tape to close his arm up and continued the match. Who handed him the tape?

Answer: Bill Alfonso

Bill Alfonso, who was Sabu's manager, gave him a roll of tape and then Sabu proceeded to close the near ten inch long gash on his arm. Later on, Sabu wrapped barbed wire around himself and jumped onto Terry Funk, also covered in barbed wire, who was lying on a table covered in barbed wire.

It eventually took several ring technicians bearing bolt cutters to cut the wire away from the participants to free them. Never again was a barbed wire match held in ECW.
6. After a brutal crucifixion of The Sandman onto a cross with barbed wire, who left the ECW Arena that night in absolute disgust?

Answer: Kurt Angle

For an ECW taping entitled "High Incident" on the twenty-sixth of October in 1996, Kurt Angle was convinced arrive at the building by Shane Douglas (some say it was Taz who persuaded Angle). Angle provided commentary for a Taz v. Little Guido match. He left after the crucifixion of Sandman onto a wooden cross, strung up with barbed wire. Angle was worried about being attached to this controversial incident and threatened to sue Paul Heyman if his name or any likeness was ever associated with the happening.
7. At the 1999 "Living Dangerously" event, which two former tag team partners battled each other?

Answer: New Jack and Mustafa Saed

New Jack managed to defeat Mustafa Saed after a near nine-and-a-half minute match with a suicide splash.
8. Taz defeated Buh Buh Ray Dudley to retain his ECW World Heavyweight Championship at "Hardcore Heaven" in 2000. What was the stipulation for the match?

Answer: Falls Count Anywhere

Taz forced Buh Buh Ray (one half of the "Team 3D" tag team) to submit via his signature submission hold, the Tazmission, after battling for twelve minutes.
A "No Time Limit" match was held earlier that evening, where Rob Van Dam defeated Jerry Lynn to retain the ECW Television Title.
9. At "November to Remember" in 1998, a six man match served as the main event. Sabu, Rob Van Dam and Taz defeated Shane Douglas, Bam Bam Bigelow and a third member. Who was the third member?

Answer: Chris Candido

A faction known as the "Triple Threat" (created by Shane Douglas) existed in ECW. It also included, besides Douglas, Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko in the original incarnation. 2 Cold Scorpio had also joined the faction for a brief period.
After a stint in the WWF, Shane Douglas reformed the group with Chris Candido and Brian Lee.
Sabu, Rob Van Dam and Taz began calling themselves the "New Triple Threat" in late 1998 and defeated Candido, Douglas and Bigelow (the original team) after Sabu pinned Shane Douglas. The new group eventually disbanded because of inner dissension.
10. The very last nationally, as well as globally, broadcast event held by the original ECW, before it filed for bankruptcy, was scheduled in 2001. What was it called?

Answer: Guilty as Charged

"Guilty as Charged" was held in early January of 2001 and eventually ECW went bankrupt two months later. Notable matches from the card included an ECW World Heavyweight Championship match between Rhino and The Sandman, Rob Van Dam defeating Jerry Lynn, Tommy Dreamer beating C.W. Anderson in an "I Quit" match and Sandman winning the ECW World Heavyweight Championship before his match with Rhino, beating Steve Corino and Justin Credible in a Three Way Tables, Ladders, Chairs and Canes match. Sandman was able to unhook the belt first.
