1. "Famous Funnies" is considered the first true comicbook-- who published this landmark series?

Answer: Eastern Color Printing

In 1933, a premium not sold on newsstands, "Famous Funnies, A Carnival of Comics" was printed by Eastern Color Printing and put out by Delacort, but found only in Woolworth's department stores. When Delacort (later known as Dell) declined to continue printing the title, an Easter Color printing salesman, Max Gaines took it upon himself to issue "Famous Funnies" #1 in 1934. Max Gaines would later become the notorious publisher of EC Comics.
2. Slam Bradley is a private investigator who first operated out of Cleveland, then moved his base of operations to New York City. Where did his adventures see print?

Answer: DC Comics

Created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Samuel "Slam" Bradley made his first appearance in "Detective Comics" #1 in 1937. A long running strip behind Batman, Slam Bradley's last appearance for many years was in "Detective Comics" #152. Since 1981, he has been a recurring character in the DC Comics Universe.
3. Lee Travis was a wealthy newspaper publisher who fought crime as The Crimson Avenger. Who published this masked man's exploits?

Answer: DC Comics

The original Crimson Avenger first appeared in "Detective Comics" #20, pre-dating Batman by seven months. The Crimson Avenger was outfitted with a trenchcoat, fedora, and conventional handguns looking similar in appearance to The Shadow. He could also be compared to The Green Hornet in that he, too, had an Asian partner/driver named Wing that accompanied him on his adventures.

His origin was never shown until "Secret Origins" #5, published by DC Comics in the late 1980's.
4. When Drake Steven's father is murdered, he dons a costume, jet pack and gas-filled wings to become a high-flying Airman. What publishing outfit did this hero fly out of?

His one Golden Age appearance was in "Daring Mystery Comics" #2 in 1941.
