Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dominator is a retired thoroughbred gelding that is provided for Ashleigh to use as a riding horse at Townsend Acres. What was Dominator kept for at Townsend Acres before being designated as a riding horse for Ashleigh?

Answer: Clay Townsend's daughter rode him regularly before she was married.

Dominator was the pleasure horse of Clay Townsend's daughter. He was trustworthy, fast, and was ridding regularly until Townsend's daughter married and moved away shortly before the Griffens arrived at Townsend Acres.
2. Charlie Burke thinks that female riders are fantastic and suggests that Ashleigh be a jockey when she grows up.

Answer: False

Set in his ways and ideas, Charlie is opposed to female riders. He would never admit that he respects Jilly as a female exercise rider and maintains to Ashleigh that racing is dangerous and not a good idea for women. Despite those notions, he starts coaching Ashleigh's riding out of respect for her as a horse woman.
3. As Ashleigh spends more time with Wonder what begins to suffer?

Answer: Ashleigh's grades at school

Ashleigh received only Cs on her report card and a "great big D in Math".
4. For Christmas that year Ashleigh got Charlie some handkerchiefs, but what she wasn't expecting was a gift in return. What did Charlie give her?

Answer: Charlie's riding crop from his days as a jockey

As Charlie's opinion of female riders begins to change when he works with Ashleigh, he gains more and more respect for the females in the industry. For Christmas he wraps his old riding crop from when he himself was a jockey and presents it to her. It is tooled leather and has his initials "C. B." carved in the handle.
5. When Wonder is designated to be sent to the Keenland Auction by Clay Townsend and Ken Maddock. Ashleigh protests and convinces Mr. Townsend to give her how much time to show improvement?

Answer: One month

Mr. Townsend's decision to allow Wonder another month to grow and mature does not suit Ken Maddock at all. "I think you're making a big mistake", Maddock says. Mr. Townsend shrugs casually saying, "What's another month?"
6. Part of Charlie's program for improving Wonder's condition includes lots of exercise meaning that Ashleigh will take Wonder on long walks around the farm in all sorts of weather conditions including snow and slush.

Answer: True

It is because of all the exposure to the elements and the hard work Ashleigh put in on her homework to bring up her grades that Ashleigh became ill and had to stay in bed for days. However her parents, having felt bad about grounding Ashleigh from Wonder for letting her grades slip, helped out and made sure Wonder got her walks and extra care.
7. When Wonder is finally to be shown to Mr. Townsend and Ken Maddock again to decide her fate, Charlie tells Ashleigh to remove ____ or they won't "see her good points".

Answer: Wonder's blanket

Wonder had a light blanket over her, so Charlie advised her to remove it before she led Wonder out of the barn in front of a small group of people that included Townsend Acres owner Clay Townsend.
8. The group watching Wonder as Mr. Townsend and Mr. Maddock make their decision does not include this person.

Answer: A Lexington reporter

Caroline watched from a distance as did Ashleigh's father, Derek Griffen. Ashleigh noticed Brad watching as she led Wonder in circles and he looked impressed which was a change from his negative opinions of Wonder in the past.
9. In the end, Mr. Townsend decides Wonder is still too small and sends her to the Keenland Auction despite all the work Ashleigh has done.

Answer: False

He decides to give Wonder another year to prove herself as an asset to the farm before sending her to auction.
10. Directly after deciding Wonder's fate, what did Mr. Townsend tell Ashleigh before heading up the drive with Mr. Maddock?

Answer: "I didn't really want to give up one of Townsend Pride's foals."

Because Wonder's sire was Townsend Pride who'd won the Derby as a three year old Mr. Townsend was reluctant to give up on Wonder. He was probably somewhat relieved to see that Wonder maybe had a chance and said this to Ashleigh after making his decision to let her stay at the farm for another year.
