Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On the cover where it asks you to put your name, what does it say?

Answer: Ex-Libris

It says above where you'd put your name, "Ex-Libris", which is Latin for "From the Books". It also has a picture of Violet, Sunny, Klaus, and Coach Genghis/Count Olaf there too.
2. Who are the publishers?

Answer: Harpercollins Publishers

It says on the title page, "Harper Collins Publishers" under "Ilustrated by". Lemony Snicket and Brett Helquist are the author and illustrator, Dell makes computers, and Harcourt publishes textbooks for school.
3. Is the book dedicated to Tricia?

Answer: No

All of the "Unfortunate Events" books are dedicated to Beatrice. In the front of the book, on the dedication page, it says, "For Beatrice-You will always be in my heart, my mind and your grave." Odd little dedication, don't you think?
4. What did Carmelita Spats call the orphans?

Answer: cakesniffers

The orphans walk toward the school and Carmelita walks past them and calls them cakesniffers. What does it mean?
5. In the picture at the beginning of chapter 12, what does the book on the desk say?

Answer: EXAM

If you look at the first page of chapter 12, you'll see a desk with a lamp hanging over it. The book on the desk says, "EXAM" referring to the exam the children take in that chapter.
6. What does "Marimo" mean in Sunny language?

Answer: Biting is my favorite subject

Sunny says "Marimo", which meant in Sunny language, "I hope there are plenty of things to bite there! Because biting is one of my favorite things to do!".
7. How long are Vice Principal Nero's concerts, and what does he play?

Answer: 6 hours/violin

If the students don't go to one of his concerts, they have to buy him a bag of candy and watch him eat it. How harsh. The Baudelaires miss 9 concerts because of Coach Genghis. They have to buy him 27 (9 days of missed concerts times 3 children) or in Nero's case 29, bags of candy for him and ten pairs of earrings for Carmelita Spats!
8. Who or what is Count Olaf's assistant diguised as?

Answer: A Cafeteria server

They kidnapped the Quagmires. That was why they were wearing those metal surgical masks!
9. The Baudelaire children meet orphans who have experienced almost all the things they themselves have experienced.

Answer: True

The Quagmires had their parents and Quigley burned in their house's fire, as in the story of the Baudelaires. Isadora and Duncan are sadly kidnapped in the end by the two powder faced women. I think they reappear in the next book, "Ersatz Elevator".
10. What prep school do the Baudelaires attend?

Answer: Prufrock Preparatory School

Prufrock Preparatory School's principal makes Sunny work in the office. Sunny doesn't get to use utensils either because she's not really allowed in the office, but it's not fair because she works there when she's not even supposed to! She's a baby!
