Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who narrates this book in the series?

Answer: Richelle Brinkley

Throughout the series, each character narrates a book and they will be the central character in solving the case or mystery.
2. What is the first name of their creepy English teacher?

Answer: Mark

His full name is Mark Raven and he used to work part time at the local library. Ironically, the town is called Raven Hill and many other references to ravens are made in the book.
3. Another character in the book also has the same first name as Mr Raven.

Answer: True

Usually, books never give a name to more than one character but in this book, Richelle's mother's friend, Mrs Bradshaw's son, is also referred to as Mark.
4. What is the name of the assignment Mr. Raven gives?

Answer: Alphabetical Mysteries

The assignment "Alphabetical Mysteries" involved each of the 26 members of the English class picking a word (each beginning with a different letter from the alphabet) from a list and finding the mystery behind it.
5. Mr Raven paints a picture for the library; what does he entitle it?

Answer: Unkindness

It is a dark gloomy painting of some ravens and is banished to the attic. Also, we learn that a group of ravens is called an "unkindness" of ravens.
6. How many people acted as the phantom of the library?

Answer: Two

The phantom of the library was initially Miss Spicer but then became Mr Kelly.
7. What was the phantom trick that was never used?

Answer: Alfalfa Sprouts

The gang find a list of tricks the phantom used and notice that the alfalfa sprouts are never used.
8. What letter does Liz get and what does she have to find the mystery of?

Answer: E - Elephants

Liz gets elephants, Richelle is the last one to pick and is left with doughnuts, to her dismay, after wanting to get Tutanhkahmen. Sunny is the one who gets Tutankahmen, Nick gets rats (even though he is afriad of them), Tom gets phobias and Elmo gets Alphabet.
9. "Bleak Mouse" is the genuine title of Miss Spicer's torn up book.

Answer: False

In actual fact, it was called "Bleak House" and it had been in her family for years. A dead mouse was found with it and Tom made a weak joke saying it was a "Bleak Mouse". It just so happened the phantom was present and heard it, changing the 'H' on the book cover to 'M'.
10. What is the title of the book Richelle needs to help her "work the whole thing out"?

Answer: The A-Z of Desserts

It took Richelle ages to find this book but when she did, she discovered that it was overdue. It just so happened that Tom's overdue (and lost) library book was that. "The Elephant's Graveyard" is a book Liz finds.
11. What is Franco's big secret?

Answer: He cannot read at all

Franco cannot read at all and makes up excuses to cover this secret. He grew up in the circus and travelled around a lot, making it difficult to learn. Miss Spicer sets up the phantom tricks to encourage kids to come to the library so as not to be like Franco.
12. Do Miss Spicer and Franco get married?

Answer: Yes

Richelle notices how cute they are together, often commenting how they make a nice couple and on their physical similarities (they are both short).
13. Who sets fire to the library?

Answer: Mr Kelly

Mr Kelly was the other phantom and was framing Miss Spicer for all the bad deeds so that he could take over and run the library. Mr Bela is Franco.
14. How is the mystery solved?

Answer: The character uses their fashion sense and eye for detail in other people's appearances to catch the phantom out

Like in all the books, the character who narrates it solves the case. Richelle notices that Mr Kelly's hair gets frizzy whenever it is wet, like her own hair, and that it only lies straight when lots of water is plastered over it. On the night the library was burning, it was raining but Mr Kelly's hair is plastered down flat, which Richelle notices and suspects it is to cover a bruise on his bald spot, caused by going into the attic to light the fire.
15. What was the big mystery behind the narrator's chosen letter?

Answer: That the item is made in a way that no cutting or additional touches are required.

The hole in doughnuts is made by a mould, not by cutting it out. This is the clue Mr. Raven gives Richelle when he tells her that she'll "work the HOLE thing out".
